Job Description

The Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport is located in the center of the bustling Seaport District. The AAA Four Diamond rated hotel boasts 1,054 finely appointed guestrooms with 52 suites, seven delectable dining experiences, a scenic rooftop pool, a luxury Breve Spa, and more than 100,000 square feet of meeting and event space allowing to provide each guest a unique and memorable experience. The Controller directs accounting activities of the Hotel by performing the following essential duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.



Responsibilities

    Reports to the Director of Finance.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Accounts Payable, Payroll, Audit and other accounting positions. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Responsible for complete training of generalist staff for job duties handling the following areas: Cash, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Income Audit.
  • Coordinate all on-site accounting functions with the Director of Finance. Act as liaison for all corporate accounting requests.
  • Display, effectively communicate, and hold all employee shareholders accountable to our Corporate Culture: our Vision, our Mission and our Values.
  • Establish, or recommend to management cost controls and revenue recording procedures.
  • Aid in the preparation of operating budgets, review capital budget proposals, and prepare necessary supporting documentation and justification.
  • Provide management with timely reviews of organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
  • Manage schedules of capital assets as needed to report to ownership.
  • Advise management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions as necessary.
  • Assist in attaining financial goals.
  • Ensure a timely month-end close.
  • Work with team to complete monthly reconciliations, monthly variance reporting and cash flows.
  • Customer Service Responsibility-Presents self in a professional manner including appearance, identification, and general communication and conduct at all times.
  • Make a positive contribution to the work environment through presentation of positive attitude, demonstration of cooperation and teamwork, and constructive teamwork approach to daily events.


Qualifications

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • An understanding of math, algebra, statistics, and auditing to the degree demanded by the position.
  • Efficient use of employee and physical resources is essential. This position operates in an extensive, fast-paced, automated office environment that requires advanced use of electronic data interfaces to achieve the desired results. Solutions must be practical and cost effective.
  • The ability to seek and implement innovative solutions within strict deadlines is a routine function of the Controller's position.
  • Must have 6-10 years of accounting experience preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Previous experience as a Controller or Assistant Director of Finance in a hotel also preferred.
  • BS in Accounting or related field preferred and at least three years' management experience in a hospitality accounting environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, exceptional organizational skills, an ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Must be flexible and able to work some weekends.

Hotel Specific Essential Functions:

  • Knowledge of PMS, POS, Purchasing and back office accounting systems
  • Extensive use of Excel with minimum of moderate level skills
  • Position requires extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Access and Outlook
  • Use of cash recycler machine as part of cash duties

Tools and Equipment:

  • Computer and printer, telephone, pen/pencil, photocopier, file folders, filing cabinet, and facsimile machine.
  • Cash Machine.
  • Kronos Time clock.

  • This position operates in an office environment. The nature of the job at times requires the working of nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Interior of hotel with exposure to all areas including coolers, freezers, kitchens and general office areas.
