Job Summary

This position may be filled by a currently certified X-Ray Level 3 or highly qualified Level 2 in the method. The NDT Level 3 provides leadership, guidance and technical support to the NDT organization leading the drive to process improvement and operational excellence across all NDT methods. This shall be accomplished through professionalism, dedication, experience and knowledge in NDT requirements and technology, driving adherence to disciplined systems and robust processes, and focused standardization of best practices and Leader Standard Work.

Manage processes and personnel to a cohesive set of key performance metrics that provides objective evidence regarding the health and effectiveness of NDT operating systems. The NDT Level 3 shall create and maintain cross functional relationships needed to foster a proactive engagement culture amongst the team and productive working relationship with customers. The NDT Level 3 will create a team-building environment to enable the development and sustainability of the overall NDT process, lead and embrace new technology.

Essential Duties



  • Establish and execute training and certification program for all NDT personnel under the companies approved Written Practice. Maintain certification records in accordance with industry and business requirements.
  • Assure all training material is current and in compliance with all customer requirements and current industry standards.
  • Establish a presence as the NDT expert inspector, trainer, auditor, and customer advocate in the respective NDT method to assure consistent quality and specification compliance.
  • Continuous validation regarding the effectiveness of the NDT method, systems and personnel skills via defined audits and production iteration activities.
  • Single Point Accountable (SPA) for contract review efforts on NDT related customer and industry requirements.
  • Assume direct leadership for NDT methodologies as defined by the Responsible Level 3.
  • Mentor Level 1 technicians and Level 2 inspectors. Coach NDT personnel to advance within the NDT method. Challenge and motivate NDT personnel, through demonstrated leadership.


Job Responsibilities

  • Accept direct leadership role for Hampton facility process management across NDT methodologies used within the plant.
  • Continuously assess health of the business systems against customer and/or industry standards through an efficient and effective NDT internal audit/corrective and preventative action management system.
  • Lead team and develop relationships to achieve the necessary engagement, influence, and customer connections internal and external.
  • Lead with energy by consistently identifying and overcoming challenges and possessing a highly developed quantitative, as well as qualitative skill set.
  • Leader and mentor in Problem Solving and Preventive Corrective Action Principles - Proactive approach to foresee problems rather than reacting after the event.
  • Lead the implementation of new NDT technology within Hampton facility and provide information to management by data sharing and out-reaching collaboration.
  • Strong ability to multi-task in a demanding environment and to work independently with little to no guidance required.
  • Demonstrate business acumen (financials, linkage of quality/NDT impact to financials, A3 thinking) required.
  • Must possess practical understanding of manufacturing processes to analyze problems, communicate effectively and facilitate problem solving activities objectively and independently.

  • Must possess production operation knowledge and experience relating to manufacturing, inspection, engineering, and customer interaction.
  • Ability to directly link, monitor and improve quality/NDT objectives.
  • Ability to apply problem solving methodology to positively impact business objectives.

  • Strong adherence to ethics within the NDT practices.
  • Work with Plant Management to provide input on capital needs to meet current and future planned business requirements i.e. capacity, capability, productivity, technical advancement & expertise, etc.


Job Competency:



  • Expert in understanding of non-destructive methodology.
  • Strong experience and proficiency in understanding Nadcap requirements along with knowledge in Statistical Tools and Techniques, APQP and Measurement System Analysis and application with NDT preferred.
  • Strong experience in coordinating, developing, and executing corrective / preventative /systemic action and process improvement activities.
  • Drive standardized continuous improvement metrics across the NDT disciplines.
  • Effectively work through major and minor issues without getting emotionally attached with the issue and what is needed to resolve the issue professionally.
  • Blueprint Reading/customer requirements flow-down.
  • Customer interface and understanding/deployment of customer requirements.
  • Demonstrated Internal auditing skills.
  • Stay current on latest technology for the NDT disciplines.
  • Proficient Computer Skills required; Advanced skills can be acquired with progression.


Communication:



  • Communication and Presentation Skills required (written, verbal and non-verbal).
  • Ability to communicate with all levels within the organization.
  • Must be able to work with external and internal customers.
  • Ability to read and react to verbal and non-verbal communication while maintaining complete professionalism.
  • Must effectively listen and evaluate, prior to developing a response.


Coaching and Mentoring:



  • A willingness to coach and mentor Hampton facility employees.


Skills and Abilities:



  • Demonstrate, execute, and lead with the highest ethical standards.
  • Make decisions that are factual and supported by data.
  • Demonstrate and execute effective NDT management involving inspector performance.
  • Provide leadership through mentoring and coaching.
  • Always demonstrate ethical actions.
  • Capable of using computers and PC based programs to operate equipment and or collect data.


Physical Demands:



  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus - subject to NAS 410 eye examination requirements and Company eye exam J1 at not less than 12" or equivalent.
  • This position requires travel by car or plane, and correspondingly duties may be performed in various settings.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:



  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related NDT discipline and current certification with ASNT/NAS 410 or other recognized NDT accreditation in L3 certification (country dependent).


OR

Requires an associate degree in NDT (specifically defined to NDT) plus two plus years (2+) of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment and ASNT/NAS 410 or other recognized NDT accreditation in L3 certification (country dependent).

Note: Relevant work experience is determined and documented by the Level 3 responsible (Responsible Level 3) for this certification program.

OR

Requires 4+ years of relevant work experience as a certified Level 2 in a manufacturing environment and ASNT/NAS 410 or other recognized NDT accreditation (country dependent).

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Current Level 3 Certification highly desirable.
  • Previous NDT experience in investment castings highly desirable
  • Additional education, SQE, Six Sigma, APQP, SPC statistical management training is a plus.
  • NDT Auditing Experience preferred utilizing Nadcap checklists.
