Under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, the Orthopedic Tech job applies casts, splints and other DME to the Orthopedic patient population in an outpatient setting. This role provides patient/family teaching to a wide variety of patients with varying educational levels. This role also orders and maintains supplies in the cast room. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Orthopedic Technician Certified (OTC) by the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologist (NBCOT) preferred Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: BLS Certification required Current/active OTC certification preferred Experience REQUIRED: N/A Experience PREFERRED: Previous experience in the outpatient clinical setting Education/training REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED required Education/training PREFERRED: N/A Independent action(s) required: Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner in providing patient care related to casts, splints and wound care all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure. Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor regarding time/schedule changes, legal issues, direct care which deviates from standard and identifying educational resources to meet developmental needs. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.
