Overview

Position Description The Senior Scientist will join the PCR and Enzymes R&D team, responsible for design, engineering, expression, and purification of enzymes and proteins with applications in life sciences, genomics and molecular diagnostics fields. The ideal candidate will have experience in protein engineering, directed evolution, and be familiar with high-throughput enzyme engineering technologies. Expertise in designing expression DNA constructs, and proficiency in protein expression and purification processes are critical. Experience with the design and development of efficient workflows (reagent systems) for nucleic acid amplification and NGS-related applications is a plus. The successful candidate will be working in a cross-functional team and required to support both internal and external (customer defined) projects. Responsibilities - Design, construct, express, and perform screening/selection assays for recombinant proteins. - Participate in protein expression optimization and purification at different scales. - Design and implement assays for enzyme characterization. - Use rational design, structure analysis, directed evolution methods and protein engineering approaches to create novel enzymes or variants. - Identify new opportunities and expand capabilities. Initiate and lead product development in developing innovative technologies and products. - Train and/or supervise junior level Team members. Position Requirements - Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Enzymology or related field, 2-5 years industry or Postdoc experience is preferred; or MS with 5-10 year of Biotech industry experience. - Extensive experience in protein expression in coli and purification techniques including ion exchange and affinity chromatography, dialysis, filtration, electrophoresis, and protein characterization and analytical methods such as thermal shift assay. - Broad experience and knowledge in molecular biology techniques including PCR, gene assembly and cloning; protein engineering methods such as mutagenesis, fusion protein construction, and variant library generation methods. - In-depth knowledge of enzymes used in molecular biology, especially polymerases and ligases, and molecular biology methods for nucleic acid analysis. - Familiar with diverse software packages for sequence editing, primer design, sequence blasting, alignment, and molecular modeling software. - Working experience with AKTA FPLC systems and knowledge of protein structural biology is a plus. Personal Requirements - Able to work in a fast-paced and collaborative team environment. - Excellent analytical thinking, problem solving, timeline management and interpersonal skills. - Strong organizational skills, and solid communication skills including oral, written and presentation techniques.
