Job Description

Summary

Under the general direction of the Health and Safety Manager, the Environmental Specialist maintains operations in compliance with all federal and state environmental laws. The Environmental Specialist also ensures the facility is following corporate programs, facility specific procedures and work instructions. The Environmental Specialist will report to the plant Safety Manager.

Basic Position Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  1. Assists in completion of environmental reports (e.g., Tier II, Toxic Release Inventory, Discharge Monitoring Reports), maintains records, and keeps abreast of current and new requirements at the state and federal levels for air, water, and waste.
  2. Responsible for maintaining daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly inspection forms required by the company for the purpose of accuracy and retention. This will be done per all applicable standards and as required internally.
  3. Coordinates the collection and preparation for shipment of small quantities of hazardous waste, universal waste, and non-hazardous waste.
  4. Collection and shipment of wastewater samples.
  5. Maintain and implement corrective actions associated with a spill prevention control and countermeasure plan (SPCC).
  6. Conducts site investigations and internal audits, prepares reports, and facilitates activities to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations and procedures.
  7. Enters and maintains all SDS and chemical approval documentation for the plant.
  8. Data entry for EHS software technologies for environmental and safety programs on a regular basis (e.g. Dakota, EMS Management system, EHS Insight, SharePoint, and Cority).
  9. Required to compose PowerPoint presentations and conduct environmental training for employees as well as conduct New Hire Training for all new employees.
  10. Assists HS Manager in accident investigations, weekly, monthly inspections, report writing and corporate communications.
  11. Maintains and creates a safe working environment for all employees. Looks for opportunities to get employees involved in environmental, safety, process changes and overall continual improvement efforts of the plant through the plant's cascading goals.
  12. Required to come in early or stay late as needed.
  13. Performs various other miscellaneous duties pertaining to the overall safety related functions as required. Such as managing multiple safety committees.
  14. Must be able to complete work under specified deadlines and with limited supervision.
  15. Other EHS duties as assigned.

Basic Responsibilities for all Manchester Tank & Equipment Team Members

  1. Promoting and implementing the environmental, health and safety prevention loss policy and ensuring environmental and health and safety policy goals are met.
  2. Report all accidents/incidents, near misses, to the Safety Department.
  3. Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as: Safety Glasses, Ear Plugs, Steel Toe Shoes.
  4. Communicates issues regarding Machine, Product, Production to Health & Safety Manager.

Education and/or Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in environmental studies/physical science or occupational safety.
  2. At least two years of environmental or environmental health/safety work or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wide range of temperatures, humid conditions, moving machinery, dust, fumes, gases, odors, vibrations, and varying noise levels.

There is a high noise level throughout the plant and hearing protection must always be worn while in the plant during production. Wearing other proper protective equipment including metatarsal safety shoes and eye protection is always required while in the plant during production.
