Summary: The Q&A / Technical Editor plays a vital role in ensuring the accuracy, quality, and consistency of technical content and data for both internal and public-facing platforms. This position requires strong attention to detail, technical editing expertise, and collaborative communication skills to support operational goals, maintain technical documentation, and uphold the integrity of databases and websites.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality of data within the Recreational Boating Safety Database (RBSDB).
- Conduct quality assurance checks to identify and resolve database discrepancies.
- Edit, proofread, and verify technical content for www.uscgboating.org and www.safeafloat.com.
- Maintain technical documentation for database operations and website management.
- Collaborate with project managers, developers, and content creators to achieve project goals.
- Prepare clear, concise reports and summaries for stakeholders.
- Liaise with stakeholders to gather feedback and address informational needs.
- Monitor website and database performance, ensuring alignment with safety objectives.
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong technical writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Proficiency with quality assurance processes and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with database systems, content management systems, and website management tools.
- Solid understanding of technical documentation standards and practices.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to analyze and resolve data discrepancies efficiently.
- Knowledge of or interest in recreational boating safety (preferred but not required).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Demonstrated experience in quality assurance and technical editing.
- Proficiency in technical writing, editing, and proofreading.
- Familiarity with database systems, content management platforms, and website editing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree or certifications in technical writing, quality assurance, or relevant fields.
- Knowledge or interest in recreational boating safety or related programs.
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Competence with QA tools, database software, and CMS platforms.
