Residency Professional Development Practitioner: This role focuses on the management and administration of nurse residency transition to practice programs. JOB TYPE Classification:Exempt Supervises Positions:No JOB SUMMARY: The Residency Professional Development Practitioner (RPDP) is a registered nurse responsible for all aspects of the Nurse Residency and Preceptor programs including curricular design, program coordination, delivery, and evaluation. The RPDP fulfills the roles of learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, partner for practice transition, and advocate for the nursing professional development specialty. Providing clinical and educational expertise, the RPDP facilitates the Residency and Preceptor Programs to promote role development as well as safe and effective transitions to practice for program participants. All members of the Professional Development team are expected to maintain, role model, and enforce exemplary practice in accordance with the Nursing Professional Development: Scope and Standards and the UVA Community Health ASPIRE behavioral standards. This position supports all of Community Health, with alignment to a UVACH facility. JOB COMPETENCIES: Education:
- Collaborates with organizational nursing leadership to identify or validate learning gaps among the nurse resident and preceptor populations and develop strategies to address identified needs.
- Designs, develops, implements, and evaluates the Preceptor and Nurse Residency Program curricula to meet identified program outcomes, informed by patient care, learner, and organizational needs.
- Conducts and/or coordinates program elements including but not limited to classes, skills verification, specialized courses, evaluations, and group sessions.
- Utilizes best practice standards including adult learning principles in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities to facilitate achievement of desired learning outcomes.
- Respects diversity by considering cultural, ethnic, generational and other differences in educational planning and incorporating inclusive educational design to meet learner needs.
Competency Management
- Collaborates with key stakeholders, Clinical Professional Development Practitioners/Specialists, and leaders to develop specialty specific residency competencies based on needs and identified criteria.
- Assists in competency assessment and remediation for program participants in alignment with organizational standards.
- Assists in the revision or development of competencies as needed, informed by program evaluation and organizational metrics.
Collaborative Partnerships:
- Promotes evidenced based educational experience through consultation with clinical leaders, preceptors, subject matter experts, and team members.
- Partners with the system Nurse Residency Program Manager to ensure alignment with system program strategy and accreditation standards.
- Provides support for system program accreditation through document writing and review, report management, and collaboration.
- Partners with Learning and Development to provide ongoing professional development opportunities for preceptors throughout the organization.
- Provides consultation and educational support through participation in professional governance committees and collaboration with organizational leaders.
Inquiry:
- Models the integration of evidenced based practices in the content and delivery of learning activities.
- Participates in ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement, desired patient-centered outcomes, and organizational outcomes.
Onboarding and Orientation:
- Provides facilitation support to orientation and onboarding programs.
- Meets department nursing leadership monthly to discuss the performance of preceptor and residency program participants; addressing performance issues and providing remediation support as needed in partnership with assigned nursing leadership.
- Serves as an operational liaison for all program needs, including coordinating supply management, scheduling, and program analytics, escalating issues as appropriate.
- Models a commitment to lifelong learning through engagement in educational opportunities for oneself.
- Facilitates effective role transitions for newly hired individuals through program administration.
Role Development:
- Functions as liaison between disciplines and departments ensuring a smooth coordination of entry into units, communicating and collaborating with many different members of the inter-professional care team.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education
- BSN required
- Master's degree in related field (nursing, education, or other clinical practice area) required within 3 years of hire.
Experience:
- Minimum of three years of nursing practice
- Minimum of two years of practice in specialty area or in clinical education
Licensure & Certification
- Current, unencumbered licensure valid in the state of Virginia
- Certified in American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS or PALS as appropriate for specialty
- AHA BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS certified instructor preferred
- Professional certification for area of focus preferred
