OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company is seeking a career and quality-minded Survey Party Chief with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in challenging land survey projects including all types of Boundaries, GPS, Easement/Right of Way, Topographic and As-Built Surveys. Qualified candidates will be responsible for performing survey related field collection tasks such as determination of position and elevation of various features and set stakes for construction and boundaries. Successful candidate will work under direct supervision of a Land Surveyor. This is a full-time position based out of our Chamblee (Atlanta Metro), GA office.

This position requires travel Monday - Thursday each week throughout Georgia and works 4 - 10-hour days.

The typical pay range for this position is $28.75 - $36.39 per hour. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Work under moderate direction of the Survey Chief of Parties or a Professional Land Surveyor to complete surveys for various public and private clients including federal, state, and municipal institutions, developers, contractors, and private landowners.
  • Take initiative and provides direction to perform survey related field collection to determine position and elevation data of various features.
  • In an independent role, apply survey standards using survey equipment including total station, levels, GPS, scanner, drone and tape measures on moderately complex projects.
  • Complete various types of surveys including boundary, ALTA, topographic, as-built, easement/right of way, construction, and other types of land surveys, with proficiency in several of these areas.
  • Intermediate level of expertise in survey field workflows, with proficiency in multiple workflows.
  • Perform survey related research to create field package information to execute work.
  • Prepare field notes, project sketches and photographs.
  • Review and perform quality check on field measurements and documentation.
  • Set stakes for boundaries, easements, construction, and other surveys.
  • Cut and clear brush, when necessary, utilizing a machete or brush hook.
  • Accurate completion of daily timesheets, crew reports, vehicle inspections, and data downloading procedures.
  • Comply with company quality standards and procedures.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal survey regulations.
  • Comply with Merrick safety procedures.
  • Maintain survey vehicle including routine service and inspections, cleaning and organization.
  • Maintain, clean, and organize survey equipment and supplies, including scheduling repairs and calibrations as needed.
  • Coordinate with survey office technicians and senior staff to verify field collection meet requirements and resolve issues.
  • Ability to work alone or provide direction to a field survey team.
  • Ensure crew is properly equipped with survey supplies and personal protection equipment.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and the public on project sites. Complete other duties as required or directed by the Survey Chief of Parties or Professional Land Surveyor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five (5) or more years of land surveying experience, with a minimum of 2 years of experience leading a survey crew.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Experience with Easement/Right-of Way Surveys, Platting, ALTA's, boundary surveys (retracement and route), property descriptions, topographic surveys, as-built surveys, and construction staking assignments required.
  • Proficient with setup and use of survey field equipment.
  • Proficient with mathematical principles, land survey terminology, field survey methods and techniques and safe work practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of survey related research.
  • Advanced understanding and experience with survey concepts and methodologies such as boundary, GPS, easements, right-of-way, construction layout, design, plan & profile, as-built, topographic and property legal descriptions.
  • Experience with linear projects (Transmission Line, Pipeline, Road or Rail).
  • Intermediate knowledge of coordinate systems, datums and mapping projections commonly used in the United States
  • Ability to interpret survey plats and perform field calculations for searching out corner monumentation during boundary retracement is desired.
  • Ability to interpret construction plans and drawings while on staking projects.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under Merrick's insurance carrier.
  • Must be able to travel up to one (1) week at a time. Work will be located locally and regionally.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without Sponsorship.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in HDS (scanning) collection using a Trimble SX10.
  • UAS (Part 107) Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Experience with Civil3D, AutoCAD and/or GIS software experience.
  • Experience with Trimble equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work in variable climate and environmental conditions including extreme temperatures, precipitation and wet/muddy conditions.
  • Required to regularly carry survey instruments and equipment in remote, rural, or suburban surroundings up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs.
