Internal Controls Specialist

Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Internal Control Specialist in Dallas, TX who will be paying a key rolein the Company's Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program and its Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR). They will review the existing and new implemented processes to ensure effective controls are in place. The ICS will assist management in identifying and implementing new controls and provide guidance to drive efficiencies in the current control environment. They will also assist management in remediation of identified deficiencies.

Job Duties

  • Participates in the planning and execution of the annual SOX risk assessment process to support the SOX compliance plan.
  • Prepares work papers and reporting documentation to support management's ability to provide assurance of their internal control procedures.
  • Acts as a technical resource for management in the implementation of their controls providing guidance on the proper detective, preventive and corrective controls needed.
  • Reviews existing process based SOX documentation for completeness including process flows. Works with Management to update, as needed.
  • Performs control assessments for existing and acquired entities to identify gaps and assist in deficiency remediation.
  • Identifies control risks putting the most efficient control mitigation processes in place.
  • Works closely with process owners and internal audit to remediate deficiencies
  • Acts as the liaison between management and internal / external audit in control related matters.
  • Assists with broader Accounting, Finance and GRC (governance, risk and compliance) initiatives as they surface.



Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by supervisor, as determined from timeto time at their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of five years of on the job experience is required.

Preferred Experience

Experience in audit, internal controls and/or internal audit is preferred.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree, in accounting, finance or related field, is required.

Preferred Education

A Master's Degree and/or a CPA is preferred.

Required Skills

Strong knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Section 404, and COSO Internal Controls Framework, risk assessment practices; Internal Controls over Financial Reporting. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products, specifically Microsoft Excel. Experience with large accounting and maintenance ERP software (SAP a plus). A broad understanding of accounting practices (U.S. GAAP) and procedures is required. Must have advanced reading and writing skills, the ability to perform intermediate to advanced mathematical calculations, analyze and review large batches of data, and the ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbally, across all levels of the organization. Excellent project management skills: proactive, responsive, takes ownership and accountability, drives processes, meets timelines and critical deadlines.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

None.

Work Conditions

Office based with travel throughout the United States to the petroleum refinery by land and air occasionally. May be required to work flexible hours. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.
