Sentry is looking for a motivated, customer-oriented professional to provide exceptional service to our Sentry Credit Union members. The Operations Specialist- Lending will provide cross-functional support within the operations department by contributing to the timely collection of outstanding loans, delinquent accounts, and payment activity.

Work hours are Monday through Friday- no weekends or evenings!

What You'll Do

As an Operations Specialist- Lending, you will:

  • Contact members with delinquent loans shares by phone, email, and letter to resolve delinquency and works with third party vendors to facilitate collections processes.
  • Facilitate the recovery of collateral on delinquent accounts, the recovery of deficiency balances, garnishments, small claims action, and any other legal action.
  • Collaborate with SCU leadership on delinquent loans/accounts to determine which account should be turned over to outside collection agencies or attorneys. Actively work with attorneys and monitors progress of collection agencies. Evaluate and recommend new agencies as needed.
  • Manage payment activity and data entry for all Sentry Foundation/Sentry Corporate Educational Loan Benefit transactions, preparation of deposits to appropriate accounts, collection activity, and reconciliation of the general ledger to the borrower trial balance.
  • Perform card maintenance and operational support for the credit unions card portfolio. Respond to members' questions regarding card status, disputes, and other card related functions.

Additionally, you will:

  • Perform duties associated with those members with loans who file bankruptcy, including filing a proof of claim with the bankruptcy court, monitors judgement and files proper paperwork with the court/member to resume payments or proceed with repossession.
  • Prepare and submit monthly loan reports including status of delinquent accounts, troubles loans, and recommendations for charge offs.
  • Receive lists of compromised accounts from data processing vendor, review individual accounts, tracks account activity, determine whether a card is compromised to the point that it must be cancelled and reissued, contacts member/cardholder as appropriate, and reissue cards as necessary.
  • File life and disability debt protection claims and processes subsequent payments.
  • File collateral protection (CMCI) claims in the event of repossession of collateral.
  • Assist members with credit reporting disputes.
  • Review all compromised credit card accounts and takes appropriate action.
  • Balance and services Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).
  • Provide back-up support to all areas of operations.
  • Support the vision of the credit union by working collaboratively with other team members to achieve organizational goals, support a positive environment, and help members achieve their financial goals.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned from time to time.

What it Takes

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 2 years of related work experience
  • Background and experience in collection, with knowledge of consumer law and lending regulations.
  • Excellent communication and human relations skills with the ability to relate to and communicate firmly with members for collection purposes while maintaining cordial relations with regular SCU members.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
