Description Piedmont Service Group is seeking a qualified HVAC Service Technician with extensive experience in large commercial HVAC systems. This role is crucial for delivering technical expertise and support to our key customers and field staff. - Analysis & Repair: Conduct detailed analysis, troubleshooting, installation, repair, and maintenance of heavy commercial HVAC equipment, including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, compressors, ventilation systems, and energy management controls.
- Quality Assurance: Perform comprehensive field inspections to ensure compliance with internal quality standards, documenting findings to identify operational trends and drive process improvements. Engage in customer-facing discussions to address quality concerns and recommend corrective actions.
- Technical Support: Collaborate with the sales team by providing technical insights for developing detailed work scopes and accurate cost estimates, enhancing credibility with customers and supporting the sales process.
- Mentorship & Training: Act as a mentor to field technicians, providing guidance through phone support, on-site shadowing, and specialized training programs to elevate technical competence and service delivery.
Requirements Job Requirements:
- Experience & Education: Minimum of 7-10 years of hands-on experience with heavy commercial mechanical systems, supported by relevant vocational training or trade certifications.
- Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of heavy commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, VAV systems, controls, and CRAC units. Familiarity with building management systems (BMS) and advanced HVAC technologies is essential.
- Collaboration Skills: Proven ability to effectively multitask and work collaboratively with service management, dispatch, and other internal teams to optimize service operations.
- Communication Skills: Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly to customers and train field personnel effectively.
- Availability: Willingness to provide after-hours support for urgent customer needs and field personnel assistance.
- Certifications: Must possess Universal CFC certification. BL licenses are a plus.
- Technical Aptitude: Proficient in using computers and mobile devices for diagnostics and reporting.
- Leadership Competencies: Basic leadership skills with a focus on collaboration and cross-functional teamwork to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Project Management: Experience in project estimating, job cost development, and management of HVAC service projects.
- Training Delivery: Ability to deliver effective training sessions that foster high levels of engagement and knowledge retention among participants.
- Support Structure: Role includes providing support to approximately 7 field technicians, 1 service managers, and 3 project or maintenance sales representatives, with occasional assistance for other Piedmont Service branches.
- Valid NC Driver's License: Required for travel to job sites.
Physical Requirements:
- Capable of lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.) with appropriate safety measures.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, climbing, pulling, pushing, balancing, kneeling, twisting, and standing for extended periods.
- Competence in using ladders and performing service tasks at heights, including setting up and maneuvering ladders up to 28 feet high.
- Ability to navigate stairs, catwalks, and other elevated work areas safely.
