The Department of Teaching and Learning within the College of Education at the University of Iowa is seeking an Adjunct Instructor for the following 3-semester hour course to be taught in the Fall 2025 semester for the Regents Alternative Pathway to Iowa Licensure (RAPIL) Program:



  • EDTL:3060 - Learning & Instruction for Today's Classroom


    • This online course requires students to build effective instructional practice with emphasis on lesson planning and incorporation of evidence-based instructional strategies.
    • Course Learning Outcomes

      • build pedagogy from a student-centered mindset
      • align professional practices to Iowa Teaching Standards
      • develop content knowledge through analysis of content standards
      • design age-appropriate lesson plans that align to content standards
      • justify incorporation of specific evidence-based instructional strategies in lesson plans based on student need
      • evaluate lesson plans and instruction against set criteria
      • identify areas of instructional growth through reflective practice
      • differentiate lesson plans and instruction based on student need


    • Major Course Assignments

      • Collaborative Lesson Planning - content teams collaborate to construct a comprehensive lesson plan using the RAPIL template.
      • Small Group Instruction - students provide instruction to their non-content group peers in a digital setting.
      • Professional Observation and Feedback - students use a framework to provide constructive feedback to their non-content peers.
      • Lesson Plan Reflection - students reflect on instructor and peer instructional feedback to improve a lesson plan.
      • Differentiated Instructional Sequence - teachers refine the instructional sequence portion of a lesson plan based on knowledge of best practice.
      • Unpacking Content Standards - students work to State of Iowa-required content standards to improve objective writing skills.
      • Iowa Teaching Standards Pre/Post Evaluation and Reflection - students evaluate current practice and end of course practice based on Iowa Teaching Standards.
      • Final Lesson Plan - students submit a final lesson plan focusing on objectives, alignment, student engagement, and high impact instructional strategies.






Position Expectations



  • Co-teach with University of Iowa adjunct instructor, Marci Dunlap. Each instructor will have one full course section.
  • Course length - 8 weeks, Fall Semester (October - December).
  • Class Meetings

    • Wednesday evenings via Zoom, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.
    • 2 full Saturdays (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.), in person, location determined by Program Coordinator


  • Attend RAPIL faculty workshops
  • Participate in RAPIL applicant interviews (May)


Ideal Faculty Candidate Will Have:



  • Secondary classroom experience
  • University-level teaching experience in education-related courses in some or all of the focus areas above
  • Experience teaching with technology and/or online courses
