Sr. Director, Segment Controller - Performance & Essential Materials

SUMMARY

Provide leadership and management oversight of all accounting functions for the Performance & Essential Materials (PEM) segment reporting to the Vice President & Chief Accounting Officer. Establish and maintain all performance and essential materials general accounting functions effectively, including all transactions related to sales revenues, costs, cash, fixed assets, trade payables and inventory management. Ensure adequate PEM Sarbanes Oxley Compliance, internal controls, financial reporting, and accounting systems. Recruit, develop, motivate, and retain high-quality PEM accounting team. Support PEM businesses and operations heads in understanding/analyzing financial results, supporting strategic analysis and business decisions, and preparing accurate budgets and forecasts.

ACCOUNTING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support PEM businesses and operations heads in presenting and understanding results.
  • Support PEM business and operations heads in business development and M&A activities including integration of operations, systems, policies and procedures, and internal reporting with the Westlake model.
  • Support strategic analysis of the business including analysis of plant economics and integration, assessment of strategic initiatives, and assessment of cost reduction and profit improvement initiatives.
  • With segment business analysts, review monthly financial performance and forecasts to ensure understanding.
  • Support business and operations heads and corporate management in preparation of and adherence to annual budgets.
  • Ensure adequate financial controls and reviews.
  • Provide all PEM accounting support.
  • Ensure PEM SOX compliance.
  • Coordinate year-end financial audit to ensure timetables are met, and follow up on any potential issues related to the segment.
  • Support investor relations activities in developing conference call script, Q&A etc. as it relates to the segment.
  • Follow up effectively on all internal audit reports related to the segment including attendance at the planning and closing meeting, developing responses to audit comments, and assuring that management action plans are implemented.
  • Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job description.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.
  • Support standardization of processes, controls, account structure, and metrics across all plants and businesses for efficiency of operations and consistency in measurement and comparability of plants and operations.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities for efficiencies including leveraging technology and automation in the business.
  • Any additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting with a CPA.
  • Fifteen to twenty years of Accounting experience in all areas of accounting with a desired experience in the Chemical, Petrochemical or related industries. Ten years of Supervisory/Management experience in a Corporate Accounting Department or Division of a large manufacturing company. Public accounting experience is preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel up to 10% including air travel or auto travel.
