Overview
Within SSOE's Advanced Technology division, we specialize in high-tech facility design, offering top-tier design and engineering services to a diverse array of clients and markets. Our team is composed of highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals who excel across various disciplines. We pride ourselves on our cross-disciplinary approach, which allows us to understand and address our clients' needs more comprehensively than traditional, siloed methods. What sets us apart is our ability to seamlessly conceptualize, plan, and detail every aspect of design. Our in-house experts collaborate closely, optimizing and enhancing our work through multi-discipline strategy sessions. By leveraging cutting-edge techniques and state-of-the-art software, we deliver industry-leading technology and innovative solutions from day one. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Electrical Engineer to join our Tool Install team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the design and implementation of electrical systems for state-of-the-art industrial and high-tech semiconductor facilities. Leveraging your knowledge in electrical engineering, with a focus on low to medium voltage applications, you will be responsible for key aspects of electrical design. This position provides a unique opportunity to expand your technical expertise, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the success of mission-critical projects within a rapidly evolving industry.
Responsibilities
Generate comprehensive technical project deliverables, including detailed electrical specifications, one-line diagrams, equipment layouts, grounding and bonding plans, and power and control wiring schematics. Ensure all documentation adheres to the industry's best practices, client requirements, and our company's quality standards.
- Design and analyze low to medium voltage power distribution systems, including the selection and specification of transformers, switchgear, panelboards, and other related equipment.
- Accurately calculate and manage distribution panel loading to ensure system capacity and reliability.
- Perform detailed short circuit studies using software tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM Power Tools, EasyPower) to determine fault currents and develop protective device coordination studies for overcurrent protective devices (circuit breakers, fuses) to ensure system safety and selective tripping.
- Conduct precise voltage drop calculations for various circuits to ensure optimal system performance and compliance with relevant standards.
- Determine optimal conduit and conductor sizing based on current carrying capacity, voltage drop, and applicable codes. Methodically assess cable tray and wireway fills to ensure proper cable management, organization, accessibility for maintenance, and adherence to fill capacity limitations.
- Ensure all electrical designs rigorously comply with and exceed all applicable local, state, and national electrical codes (NEC), relevant NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, NFPA 79), and other industry-specific standards. Stay updated on the latest code revisions and industry best practices.
- Apply established design techniques and exercise sound engineering judgment in adapting and modifying design concepts to meet specific project requirements and constraints. Proactively identify potential design challenges and propose effective solutions.
- Quality Assurance and Standards: Uphold stringent quality control measures by adhering to company and project-specific design and CAD standards. Participate in design reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and constructability of electrical designs.
- Work closely and collaboratively with Senior Electrical Engineers, Project Managers, and other stakeholders (e.g., mechanical, structural, process, architectural disciplines) on specific assigned objectives and complex project features. Actively contributes to problem-solving and the development of innovative solutions to unusual engineering challenges.
- Conduct field verifications and site walks during the design and construction phases to gather as-built information, identify potential discrepancies, validate design assumptions, and integrate field conditions into the design packages. Proactively identify and resolve design-related issues on-site during construction, providing timely and effective solutions.
- As you grow in your role, you may have opportunities to provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers. Actively participate in continuous professional development to enhance your technical skills and knowledge.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution, meeting the educational requirements for professional licensure in the state of practice.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) exam with a focus on electrical engineering principles is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD for the creation of electrical drawings and layouts.
- Familiarity with other relevant software such as Bluebeam Revu for document management and collaboration.
- Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and standards, including the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E (Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace), NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery), and other applicable industry standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and build positive working relationships.
- Salary Range: $68,000 - $98,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
- Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, 401K retirement savings plan (with company matching), opportunities for professional development and training, PTO, & paid holidays.
Join us at SSOE, where your expertise will thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment dedicated to pushing the boundaries of design and engineering excellence. If you're passionate about innovation and eager to make a significant impact, we invite you to apply and become a part of our forward-thinking team.
