As a Technical Communications Project Management Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting a variety of creative projects across digital media, design, and communications. You will collaborate with talented professionals-including graphic designers, writers, video producers, and communications strategists-to help manage timelines, workflows, and deliverables that bring engaging visual and storytelling experiences to life.

While a background in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) is not required, an interest in creative project coordination and problem-solving is essential.

As a Technical Communications Project Management Intern, you will ...
  • Assist in planning, tracking, and coordinating creative projects across multiple channels, including digital media, graphics, video, and editorial content.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects stay on schedule and align with strategic priorities.
  • Support the development of project plans, timelines, and deliverables while helping manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining project management tools, task lists, and production schedules.
  • Participate in meetings, take notes, and help track action items to ensure projects stay on track.
  • Conduct research on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in creative project management and communications.
  • Assist with quality control and ensure deliverables meet brand standards and project goals.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for creative production, such as gathering assets, scheduling reviews, and organizing files.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Project Management, Design, or a related field.
  • You have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative mindset.
  • You have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • You have experience using productivity tools such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, or project management tools (Trello, Asana, Monday.com, etc.).
  • You are a proactive problem solver who enjoys working in a dynamic, creative environment.
  • To access APL's facilities and networks, U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is required, subject to applicable laws.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have experience working on creative projects in a project coordination or operations role.
  • Have familiarity with design and media workflows, including branding, video production, or digital campaigns.
  • Have knowledge of Agile project management principles or familiarity with tools like Jira.
  • Have experience in client-facing or stakeholder management roles.
  • Have a passion for creative storytelling and communications strategies.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
