General Summary

As a member of the Pulmonary Vascular Disease Program, the Research Assistant will work on clinical studies and research investigations together with Principal Investigator,Dr. David Systrom, and research team.

This position provides an opportunity to engage in a dynamic clinical research setting and is ideal for candidates interested in pursuing careers in medicine, clinical research, or public health.The focus of the team's research includes investigating myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), dysautonomia, and exercise intolerance through the interpretation of invasive cardiopulmonary exercise test (iCPET) results.

The successful applicant will be an independent problem-solver with excellent attention to detail and writing skills, who desires to work in an interdisciplinary, fast-paced and mission-driven organization.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides assistance on clinical research studies as per study guidelines and protocols. Recruits and evaluates potential study patients. Per protocol instruction, conducts telephone interviews or schedules patient for study visit and screening. May be required to perform clinical tests such as phlebotomy, EKGs, etc. Interact with patients/subjects with regard to study, including patient education, procedural instruction, follow-up. May serve as a liaison between patient and physician. Responsible for collecting data and maintaining patient information database for study. May be required to input data, do minimum analysis and run various reports. Maintains patients records as part of record keeping function. Responsible for mailing various study information or packets to study participants. Answers any phone calls and inquiries regarding study protocol. Refers participants when appropriate to supervisor or clinical staff. Monitors and sets up any needed equipment. Maintains inventory and orders supplies when necessary. All other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

BS OR BA

New graduate with relevant course or project work

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical research protocols.
  • Knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects' rights and individual needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Applicants should be able to lift at least 10lbs overhead and able to stand on their feet for at least 2 hours.
