Provides assistance on work related to epidemiological studies and other population-based research not related to clinical trials or laboratory. Assists with reporting and developing new research proposals-trains and orients staff.
-Essential Functions-Responsible for data collection, management, manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
-Study cohort management.
-Outreach communication with subjects, conducting mailings, follow-up on mailings, and obtaining necessary documents.
-Assists with preparing progress reports with basic prescriptive statistics.
-Gathers information to aid in the development of future research proposals.
-Trains and orients new staff.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Science required

Experience
Relevant research and data management experience 1-2 years required

- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
- Intermediate computer literacy including database tools.

General Summary

As a member of the Pulmonary Vascular Disease Program, the Research Assistant will work on clinical studies and research investigations together with Principal Investigator,Dr. David Systrom, and research team.

This position provides an opportunity to engage in a dynamic clinical research setting and is ideal for candidates interested in pursuing careers in medicine, clinical research, or public health.The focus of the team's research includes investigating myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), dysautonomia, and exercise intolerance through the interpretation of invasive cardiopulmonary exercise test (iCPET) results.

The successful applicant will be an independent problem-solver with excellent attention to detail and writing skills, who desires to work in an interdisciplinary, fast-paced and mission-driven organization.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates the implementation, both internally and externally, of sponsored clinical research studies. Initiates and maintains contact with study participants. Responsible for screening applicants,ensuring they meet appropriate criteria, and makes independent judgment as to the suitability oftheir participation. May be required to perform clinical tests such as phlebotomy, EKGs, etc. Working in concert with Principal Investigator and/or Research Manager, develops and implements patient recruitment strategies. Develops, organizes, and/or maintains the study database. Responsible for data validation and quality control. In conjunction with Research Manager/Principal Investigator, develops and implements new research protocols including design, data collection systems and institutional review board approval. Recommends changes to research protocols. Performs literature searches, as appropriate. Assists PI or Research Manager with preparation for presentation and written published articles. Responsible for training and orienting new staff. May serve as a team leader or in a supervisory capacity in a smaller area. All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

BS OR BA

At least one year of work experience in a research setting. Sound independent judgment and

competence in research methodologies.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Analytical skills and the ability to resolve technical or research problems and issues and to interpret
  • the acceptability of data results.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects' rights and individual needs.
  • Knowledge of data management programs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for training and orienting new staff. May serve as a team leader or supervisor in a smaller

research setting.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Applicants should be able to lift at least 10lbs overhead and able to stand on their feet for at least 2 hours.
