The Opportunity:

As a Plans Examiner II, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that all new construction, renovations, and alterations at UCF adhere to stringent safety codes and regulations. Your detail-oriented review directly contributes to the well-being of students, faculty, staff, and visitors, fostering a safe and compliant campus environment.

Responsibilities:


  • Conduct detailed reviews of architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and other related construction documents for new buildings, additions, alterations, and renovations to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local codes, regulations, standards, and University policies.

  • Interpret and apply relevant building codes (e.g., Florida Building Code), life safety codes (e.g., NFPA), accessibility standards (e.g., ADA), energy conservation codes, and other pertinent regulations.

  • Identify code deficiencies, discrepancies, and potential constructability issues in submitted plans and specifications.

  • Prepare and issue clear, concise, and comprehensive plan review comments and deficiency notices to architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders.

  • Track and manage the plan review process, ensuring timely completion of reviews and communication of status updates.

  • Review resubmitted plans and documentation to verify that all previously identified deficiencies have been adequately addressed.

  • Collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, University departments (e.g., Facilities Planning and Construction, Environmental Health and Safety, Fire Safety), and external agencies to resolve code-related issues and ensure project compliance.

  • Participate in pre-design and pre-construction meetings to provide code-related guidance and address potential challenges proactively.

  • Maintain accurate and organized records of plan reviews, correspondence, and approvals in accordance with University and departmental procedures.

  • Stay current on changes and updates to relevant codes, regulations, standards, and industry best practices through continuous professional development and training.

  • Provide technical assistance and interpretation of codes and regulations to University personnel and external stakeholders.

  • Assist Plans Examiner I staff with complex reviews or provide guidance as needed.

  • Perform site visits as necessary to clarify plan discrepancies or verify existing conditions relevant to the plan review process.

  • Contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the plan review process within the University.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in construction, design or inspections of buildings as supervisor or contractor.

  • Must possess minimum of 3 building plans examiner and 3 inspector licenses (6 total); OR 2 building plans examiner and 2 inspector licenses (4 total) and must obtain an additional inspector certification within 6 months of hire and additional plans examiner (2 total) within one year of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Plumbing inspector license and an electrical or mechanical inspector license

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus, payable after 30 days of employment.
