Communications Security (COMSEC) Lead

Evolver Federal is seeking a Communications Security (COMSEC) Lead to oversee the management, implementation, and enforcement of communication security protocols across the organization. This role involves ensuring the secure handling, storage, and distribution of cryptographic materials, managing encryption devices, and ensuring compliance with government and industry security standards. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in COMSEC operations, strong leadership skills, and experience in securing sensitive communications.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the procurement, handling, storage, and distribution of cryptographic materials and keying materials in compliance with security regulations.
• Manage and maintain Type-1 and Type-2 encryption devices, ensuring secure communication channels for classified and sensitive data.
• Ensure compliance with National Security Agency (NSA) regulations, COMSEC policies, and federal security guidelines.
• Develop, implement, and enforce COMSEC policies, procedures, and security controls to protect communication infrastructure.
• Train and oversee COMSEC Custodians and ensure adherence to proper key management practices.
• Conduct risk assessments, audits, and security evaluations to identify vulnerabilities in communication security systems.
• Collaborate with IT, cybersecurity, and defense teams to integrate secure communication protocols into network infrastructure.
• Support incident response teams in investigating and mitigating communication security breaches.
• Stay updated on emerging threats, encryption technologies, and regulatory changes to enhance COMSEC practices.
• Ensure compliance with TEMPEST standards, classified data handling procedures, and secure transmission protocols.

Basic Qualifications:

• An Active Top Secret Clearance with the ability to pass a comprehensive background check
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Cybersecurity
• CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) certification
• Security+ Certification
• 7 years of experience in information security, telecommunications security, or a related field
• 3 years of experience in communication security technologies, protocols, and practices, such as, type-1 and type-2 encryptors and managing cryptographic materials

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Master's degree
• An active Department of Energy Q Clearance
• Experience in leading a team, managing projects, and providing technical guidance to junior team members
• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of communication security, network security, and encryption principles.
• Communication: Ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to handle security incidents and vulnerabilities.
• Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with other IT teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
• Leadership Experience: Experience in leading a team, managing projects, and providing technical guidance to junior team members is crucial.
