Lead Payroll Processor - Hybrid/Remote- Oceanport, NJ

Job Overview:

The RWJBarnabas Corporate Payroll supports an employee base of more than 40,000 employees. The Payroll Lead is responsible for performing various and more complex duties of US Payroll including, but not limited to: Auditing Bi-Weekly Payrolls, process payroll adjustments and data entry request. The Payroll Lead assist the Payroll Manager with the management of the payroll staff and functions to maintain data integrity to ensure timely and accurate preparation and processing of payroll.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High School Diploma
• 6+ years of Payroll, Finance, accounting, or HR experience
• 5+ years of direct experience with PeopleSoft
• Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax practices
• Experience working with large complex clients, preferably in a healthcare setting
• Strong time-management skills with the ability to manage concurrent priorities within required time constraints and critical deadlines
• Excellent customer service skills with a dedication to effective and timely resolution of outstanding issues.
• Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of management.

Preferred:

• Previous experience with tax and vendor updates within a large payroll system
• Associate s degree in accounting, business or related field; or equivalent level of experience

Required Licenses and Certifications:

• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Certification; or, as a condition of employment, obtain certification within 1 year of starting

Schedule Requirements:

• Work schedule - Hybrid/Remote. Homebase- Oceanport, NJ. Hybrid schedule, to be determined, based on client/business needs.

Essential Functions:

• Back-up for the Payroll Records Supervisor, and when necessary, Payroll Manager
• Manage payroll inquiry distribution, reporting, and process improvements (Service Now, Adjustments module)
• First point of contact for escalated payroll inquiries
• Review and sign off on the completed Payroll Processing Checklist before payroll is confirmed.
• SME for the end to end payroll processing
• Identify downstream impact of changes, errors, and new transaction processing.
• Audit leave accruals and follow-up with assigned processor on clean-up needed or HR for further information
• Audit and sign off on Union and Escheatment processing
• Process off cycle checks as needed
• Mange and update the expense module
• Approve/deny Positive Pay issues, initiate stop payments, and ACH reversals
• Develop operational procedures for the payroll department including relevant calendars that ensure we remain compliant with applicable regulations and tax laws.
• Work with HR representative to resolve inquires
• Monitor eTime Time and Attendance for timecard errors, mis-swipes, and approvals
• Process loads to Peoplesoft for time and attendance, tuition, expense reimbursements, deductions, and others as needed.
• Create and maintain documentation on internal processes for review.
• Participate in project testing activities
• Ability to research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner, including but not limited to employee information, payroll, payroll taxes and reporting
• Ability to solve more complex tax and payroll issues in an unsupervised environment.
• Ability to evaluate overall situation to prioritize work.
