We have an opportunity for a remote Sr. Editorial Assistant I on our Scientific Publication team. In position will provide advanced editorial support for processing and tracking
manuscripts and small copy for possible publication in JAMA. Serves as a liaison between editors, authors,
and peer reviewers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manuscript Processing

  • Process submitted manuscripts via web-based system in an accurate and timely manner including checking quality of submissions and correspondence, acknowledging, rejecting, referring, revising, accepting, and transferring manuscripts.
  • Prepare, proof, and e-mail correspondence and material to authors. Remind editors and authors about deadlines.
  • Request, obtain, and ensure completeness of authorship and ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) forms and other items for provisionally accepted papers.

Manuscript Coordination and Documentation

  • Coordinate review of manuscripts and/or small copy by contacting physicians and other professional peer reviewers. Prepare, proof, and e-mail correspondence to reviewers and remind reviewers about deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate manuscript files (e-files) by monitoring deadlines including contacting reviewers for outstanding manuscript reviews and contacting authors for revised manuscripts and/or any other outstanding information.
  • Maintain accurate records for reviewers and authors in eJournal Press (eJP) database.
  • Record and maintain proper documentation in electronic manuscript files.

Manuscript Inquires:

  • Serve as liaison between editors, JAMA staff, authors, and reviewers. Handle or refer inquiries relating to manuscripts, letters, and other copy to the appropriate editor or staff.
  • Provide back-up coverage for other editorial assistants and editors as requested.
  • Provide telephone support for the Group.

Handle Special Projects as assigned by the SVP or Manager:

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School graduate, minimum; college coursework in Business or Computers preferred.
  2. A minimum of 1-2 years experience in editorial and/or administrative procedures in a publishing office preferred.
  3. Working knowledge of and experience with computer software for word processing, document conversion, and database management required, specifically Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.
  4. Working knowledge and experience with the Internet and search engines required.
  5. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required.
  6. Highly organized, good coordination skills, and close attention to detail required.
  7. Ability to work independently, frequently under deadline pressure, with minimal supervision required.

This role is a non-exempt position and the hourly range for this position is $24.58-$31.92. This is the lowest to highest rate we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration, geographical location, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
