Student Health and Well-Being (SHWB) Mental Health Services at Johns Hopkins University seeks an energetic, organized, and motivated Senior Mental Health Services (MHS) Clinician, Coordinator of Single Session Interventions to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment focused on delivering innovative mental healthcare and supporting the well-being of a diverse community of learners. The Senior Mental Health Services Clinician, Coordinator of Single-Session Interventions, is part of an interdisciplinary team of clinicians providing clinical and outreach services to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and learners across Johns Hopkins University.

Senior Clinicians within Mental Health Services participate in the full range of clinical service delivery and hold additional responsibilities, including program coordination, supervision of 1-2 staff members and/or interns, and professional development activities commensurate with their level of experience. As Coordinator of single-session interventions, this clinician will lead the coordination of the program across MHS locations, develop and implement single-session interventions, conduct program evaluations, and provide consultation and supervision to staff. Single-session interventions offered by MHS include well-being checks for first-year medical students (MedWell), single-session consultations (SSC), and ThinkPods, a single-session process group program.

All MHS clinicians work collaboratively with psychiatry, primary care, and health promotion staff to provide care that emphasizes holistic wellness and mental well-being, leveraging students' resilience and other key skills. Clinicians work collaboratively with campus partners across the University through outreach and liaison activities.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • The direct clinical service and supervisory responsibilities of this position will be primarily based at the Homewood and East Baltimore clinics, but may also involve providing virtual or in-person services, supervision, or occasional reporting requirements at other locations in Maryland or Washington, D.C.   • Percentages of duties and responsibilities are given as a general guideline and will vary depending on the time of year, the Needs of the clinical service, and program coordination responsibilities.

Single Session Intervention Program Oversight (10-20%)

  • Manages the Mental Health Services single-session intervention program, which includes single-session consultation (SSC), the MedWell program for first-year medical students, and single-session group interventions; curates each semester's schedule; ensures programs are scheduled and staffed appropriately; and coordinates and executes marketing strategies.
  • Engages various campus stakeholders and student groups to identify needs for single-session interventions and collaborates with MHS staff to develop content that meets these needs.
  • Leads professional development training and seminars, with a particular focus on single session interventions.
  • Leads a monthly consultation group for clinicians who provide single-session interventions.
  • Developed, implemented, and utilized evaluation feedback for single-session interventions to inform future offerings.
  • Remains abreast of current literature and research on student behavioral health and evidence-based intervention strategies, with a particular focus on single-session interventions.

Supervision and Leadership Development (10-20%)

  • Supervises 1-2 clinical staff and/or psychology doctoral interns through goal setting, performance evaluations, and accountability management.
  • Provides clinical supervision to ensure supervisees deliver high-quality mental health services and practice within MHS guidelines. Intern supervision includes reviewing tapes, leading didactic seminars, and participating in training program activities.
  • Participates in recruitment, hiring, and training processes for clinical staff and interns.
  • Contributes to staff development, engagement, and teambuilding activities and actively participates in MHS-wide events.


Direct Clinical Service (50-65%)

  • Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.
  • Provides multiculturally informed direct clinical services, including initial consultations, intake assessments, single-session consultations, goal-oriented individual and group therapy, and risk assessments.
  • Utilizes both flexible and goal-oriented approaches to individual treatment, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and interpersonal therapy, often in collaboration with psychiatric providers.
  • Collaborates with providers within SHWB as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team, including therapists, psychiatric providers, primary care clinicians, case management staff, and disability services staff.
  • Provides clinical case management to support connections to appropriate resources and bridge clients to care.
  • Consults, as appropriate, with community providers to facilitate continuity of care.


Outreach (5-10%)

  • Engages in opportunities for informal interactions with students to reduce barriers to counseling, which may include offering drop-in and chat hours, attending student events, orientation, resource fairs, and participating in a range of student-led and student-focused programs.
  • Contributes to content for MHS's social media and website.
  • Serves as a liaison to a school, division, or department within JHU to enhance relationships with faculty, staff, students, and trainees; a range of activities may include needs assessments, embedded chat or drop-in hours, participation in CARE teams, facilitating skills training or workshops, and consultations.


Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

  • Specialized training or experience with single-session interventions.
  • Specialized training or experience working with one or more populations that are historically underrepresented in the utilization of traditional mental health services is strongly preferred.
  • Clinical experience with concerns prevalent within the student and learner population is strongly preferred (e.g., identity development, trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, disordered eating, co-occurring substance use disorders, sleep disorders, and ADHD).
  • Experience independently executing psycho-educational presentations, programs, and events.
  • Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.

o This is a 37.5 hour/week position. One evening clinic per week; additional flexible scheduling may be possible.

o This position requires evening and weekend work dependent on the programmatic needs of the University and for activities during the academic year (e.g., orientation, special events, etc.).

o One day of remote work is standard; additional remote days may be required or permitted based on operational needs.

o This is a 12-month, year-round position.

  • This position is designated as a Required Attendance Employee, as it is vital to the operation of a work group. It may, therefore, be necessary to work during a university closure in response to operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-graduate clinical experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical supervisory experience
  • Licensed as a mental health provider in required jurisdiction(s) noted in job description (psychologist, LMFT, LCPC, LCSW-C) or license-eligible (licensed as a mental health provider in another jurisdiction, must obtain licensure in required jurisdiction(s) within 6 months of hire).
  • Substitution/Equivalency: Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., DSW, or equivalent) in a relevant clinical discipline from an accredited program and completion of an accredited internship. If eligibility is based on a doctoral degree, a minimum of three years of post-graduate experience and two or more years of licensure as a psychologist or board-approved status as a social worker or professional counselor is required to meet the minimum qualifications.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral Degree (DSW, Ph.D., Psy.D. or relevant terminal degree) from an accredited program.
  • Experience with APA-approved doctoral training programs as a clinical supervisor and familiarity with the compliance requirements for accreditation of APA-approved internships in health service psychology.
  • Clinical experience in a university setting strongly preferred.
