ETL Software Developer (Expert)

We are currently seeking an Expert ETL Software Developer to join our high-performing team in Chantilly, VA. This role offers an exciting opportunity to design and optimize sophisticated data pipelines in support of mission-critical modernization efforts. Position Overview

In this expert-level position, you will take ownership of the full data pipeline, including data ingestion, processing, storage, and exposure for consumption. You'll be a key contributor in building scalable ETL workflows and enhancing enterprise data accessibility for decision-making. In addition to hands-on development, this role involves mentoring teammates, debugging issues, documenting systems, and effectively communicating technical concepts to various stakeholders, including program management.

Your expertise in Linux-based systems, Java/Spring Boot, cloud technologies, and data management tools will be essential to driving performance and reliability within our modern data architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize ETL pipelines for efficient data ingestion, processing, storage, and access
  • Develop software solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and other modern development frameworks
  • Leverage technologies such as ElasticSearch, MongoDB, HBase, and relational databases to support data flow and management
  • Work within AWS cloud environments, utilizing services like S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and EC2
  • Collaborate with users, developers, and leadership to communicate system capabilities and suggest improvements
  • Assist teammates with debugging, development support, and documentation
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like Git, Jenkins, Puppet, and Nexus
  • Apply best practices in data engineering and analytics to support mission requirements
  • Ensure robust performance through system debugging and optimization
  • Support data cataloging and metadata management initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field
    (Specialized experience may be considered in lieu of a degree based on program needs)
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Linux, Java, Spring Boot
    • ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, MongoDB, HBase
    • Gradle, Avro, Parquet, Git, Terraform, and Splunk
    • Relational and non-relational databases
    • ETL workflows, data cataloging, and metadata management
    • AWS services such as S3, RDS, EC2, and CloudWatch
    • CI/CD tools, including Git, Jenkins, Puppet, and Nexus
  • Proven debugging and optimization skills across data and software layers
  • Experience with data engineering or analytics tools

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working within an Agile development environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities
  • AWS DevOps Professional Certification or equivalent
