Join our team as a Desktop Support Technician, working primarily out of the Erie Police Department, where you'll provide critical IT support and solutions for those who serve and protect our community. In this dynamic role, you'll take on a variety of responsibilities, from analyzing and maintaining computer systems to troubleshooting and offering exceptional customer support. You'll be the go-to person for IT needs, helping police personnel navigate hardware, operating systems, software applications, peripherals, and communication devices. Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm Job Expectations:
- Employee must be able to work on-call schedule as assigned and outside of normal working hours.
- This role may require you to visit other Town facilities to provide tech support.
- This position is 100% in-person and not eligible for remote work.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides exceptional customer service and technical assistance to internal and external customers, including town staff, elected officials, outside vendors, and contractors.
- Answer user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operations to resolve problems.
- Set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software.
- Administrative support for M365 accounts.
- Provide support for Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, body-worn cameras, security cameras, and law enforcement citation devices.
- A resource for vendor relations for troubleshooting and consulting on hardware and software configurations.
- Provides support to the help desk, desktop support, and inventory, including hardware and software.
- Images and deploys new desktop and laptop workstations for new and existing users.
- Provides peripheral support for monitors, printers, cell/smartphones, tablets, scanners, battery backups, and network devices as needed.
- Oversee the daily performance of computer systems.
- Occasionally attend evening Town Council meetings, up to twice a month, to provide technical support to Council members and staff.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop training materials and procedures or train users in the proper use of hardware or software.
- Refer major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service.
- Read technical manuals, confer with users, or conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or provide technical assistance and support.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides on-call support based on rotation.
- Maintains confidentiality when handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Attends meetings as assigned by IT Director or IT Manager.
- Performs related work as required and assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- 2-4 years of experience working in a technical support position
- Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings as needed
A combination of education and experience may be considered. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Municipal/government IT work experience
- Win OS, M365, VoIP phone, mobile devices, computer and application experience
- Demonstrate exceptional technical competency and be extremely customer service-oriented
- Wide range of problem-solving skills, as well as an ability to work with end-users at all levels of the organization
- Effective time management and ability to prioritize a high-volume workload while multitasking across multiple tasks
- Proactive, independent, and collaborative working style with minimal supervision
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- A+ Certifications/Licenses

Environmental Factors: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Indoor work is primarily in an office setting. Outdoor work occurs for short periods in all weather conditions, such as when working on wireless units and fleet vehicles. Travel is required to different town-owned buildings and occasionally for conferences, both in and out of town. Physical Factors: This role spends up to 8 hours per day sitting and up to 2 hours standing. Walking is required for approximately 25% of the workday. Repetitive motion tasks, such as typing, are performed for about 2 hours daily. The position requires a full range of motion including standing, sitting, bending, climbing, stooping, squatting, and reaching. Daily activities may involve crawling under desks and bending to pick up items. Climbing ladders and into fleet vehicles is required. Grasping tools (weighing approximately 1 pound) for hardware repair may occur for up to 2 hours at a time. Lifting objects up to 20 pounds occur daily and lifting up to 40 pounds occurs occasionally. Reaching for and pushing items, at varying levels is required. Working at heights is required occasionally to troubleshoot cables and hardware located in the ceilings. Visual requirements include the ability to see small print (e.g., asset tags, serial numbers), color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to see in light and/or bright environments. The ability to hear voices and beeping sounds is required.
