The Physical Therapist Resident/Fellow is primarily responsible for the delivery of physical therapy care to the patient population to which he/she is assigned and the recording of that care in the hospital medical record, as part of a post-graduate physical therapy program.

The therapist acts as a consultant to various patient clinics, provides instruction to PT support staff, students, personnel of other disciplines within VCUHS, and patient and/or family members.

Therapists may rotate through our various clinical service areas.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Current license as a Physical Therapist by the Commonwealth of Virginia
Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
License as a Physical Therapist by the Commonwealth of Virginia
CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area

Experience REQUIRED: N/A

Experience PREFERRED:
Previous affiliation or work experience at a similar facility

Education/training REQUIRED:
Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy

Education/training PREFERRED:
Master's or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Physical Therapy

Independent action(s) required:
Employee is a member of a self-directed team and applies their knowledge and experience in daily clinic problem solving.
The team will bring unresolved issues to department manager for assistance and guidance in their resolution.

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):
Employee may have supervisory responsibilities of Physical Therapist Assistants, Rehab Technicians, students, and volunteers.

Additional position requirements:
Employee is expected to share in weekend and holiday schedule expectations of the department or have a fluctuation of daily working hours from 8am to 7pm based on patient population needs.

Physical - Lifting greater than 100 lbs.

Emotional: Fast pace environment, Steady pace, Able to handle multiple priorities, Frequent and intense customer interactions, Able to adapt to frequent change
