HDR is looking for an experienced Senior Structural Design Technician to join our growing, nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in our Charlotte, NC office. The primary duties of this position consist of working with engineers to prepare engineering drawings and designs for hydropower and other power projects. The Senior Structural Designer will: Perform non-routine and complex design and drafting assignments requiring application of standardized drawing techniques Perform Redline corrections and develop design drawings from initial sketches Take responsibility for drawing layout Work independently with occasional advice from your supervisor Direct efforts of less-experienced BIM Technicians as needed Have mastered their specific discipline and how it interacts with other discipline design Have an advanced understanding of engineering documentation and plan presentation for all disciplines Perform other duties as needed. Preferred Qualifications Associate's degree with CADD curriculum or comparable experience. Facility (structural, piping and mechanical) experience. Prior structural engineering CAD related project experience. Independently make design and engineering decisions for low to moderately complex projects with minimal oversight. Ability to work directly with clients and strong communication skills. An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must Local candidates are preferred LI-SM1 Required Qualifications* Technical degree or a combination of education and relevant experience A minimum of 10 years related industry experience Advanced skillset of 3D design software and document management infrastructure. Advanced skillset of 3D Coordination tools Competency of Microsoft Office products and communication tools Advanced understanding of engineering or architectural concepts Knowledge of industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specifications Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and organizational traits are essential Leadership and mentoring skillsets required What We Believe HDR is our company.
