HK Solutions Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to be based out of our Des Moines, IA office.

The Senior Accountant oversees the general accounting operations and plays a critical role in driving financial accuracy, compliance and insights. Key responsibilities include month-end close process and activities, fixed asset accounting, expense report management, lease accounting, financial analysis and preparation of sales and use tax filings and compliance.

Job Responsibilities

Project Financial Management



  • Perform and lead month-end close activities including: prepare and post journal entries into the general ledger system; reconcile accounts to the general ledger; prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies and outstanding items.
  • Manage and report on inventory, ensuring accurate tracking, costing and reconciliation with the physical counts and systems.
  • Compile and analyze financial statements providing insights for variances to budget and prior year - identify and communicate budget variances to business unit and executive leadership when known based on materiality thresholds.
  • Own all fixed asset activities for the company through ensuring accurate capitalization, depreciation, disposals and reporting as well as maintaining fixed asset module within the ERP system.
  • Ensure ASC 842 lease accounting compliance, including maintain lease schedules, recording appropriate journal entries and working with stakeholders on lease classification and disclosures.
  • Review and oversee all employee expense report submissions through Rydoo expense management to ensure policy compliance, accuracy, documentation, and load monthly expense entry into ERP system.
  • Manage preparation, filing and payment of sales and use tax returns in compliance with local and state regulations.
  • Prepare and submit annual business tax filings and license renewals to maintain regulatory compliance across all applicable jurisdictions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for sales and use tax audits, including gathering documentation, responding to auditor requests and ensuring timely resolution of audit issues.
  • Support the external financial audit process, including providing necessary documentation and responding to assigned auditor inquiries.
  • Understand all functions of accounting team - accounts payable, accounts receivable, project accounting, etc.
  • Accounts Payable invoice approval, when assigned.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis, analytical work or other projects as requested by leadership.
  • Maintain financial data confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and accounting regulations impacting accounting activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required.
  • 2+ years in a general accounting role is required.
  • Experience with fixed asset accounting and sales/use tax filing is a plus.
  • Construction/project accounting is a plus.
  • Proven knowledge of GAAP procedures is required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple projects simultaneously while effectively prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to interact and participate effectively in a team environment; actively listen, confront issues and provide feedback to internal and external stakeholders, in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Strong commitment to meeting deadlines and maintain adherence to timelines and follow-up.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, detail-orientation and communication skills.
  • Professionalism in both written and verbal correspondence.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is essential, specifically Excel and Word.
