The Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) is a multi-faceted agency with a responsibility to serve the public by operating safe and secure prisons and providing effective community supervision. We take our mission seriously and every employee will work extremely hard to ensure we never compromise public safety. The Department of Correction has approximately 6500 employees operating eleven prisons, six-day reporting centers, an investigative-compliance unit and numerous probation/parole offices across the state. TDOC Central Office is located in downtown Nashville. With the implementation of the Public Safety Act TDOC is able to provide seamless supervision to offenders in jail, prison, parole, probation, and community corrections to positively impact an offenders chances for success. How you make a difference in this role:As an intern you will have the opportunity to work with TDOC programs that affect public safety and offender success across the state. Job Overview:The Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) Information Technology Services Division includes Electronic System Support Specialist and Programmers which support the state prisons and departmental training facility by maintaining security electronic systems and staff and inmate networked computers. Security electronic systems include video systems, fence intrusion detection systems, door control, intercoms, and paging. Computer support is for both the over 2500 networked staff computers and the over 1200 networked inmate classrooms where inmates study for GED and college courses. Key Responsibilities:Under general supervision, performs electronic security systems and computer support work in a correctional setting. The electronic system support includes preventive maintenance, installation, and repair of fence intrusion detection, video systems, and fabricating door control systems including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and other devices for door control. Computer support includes imaging computers, configuring printers, upgrading software, and general troubleshooting of computer issues. Interns will be responsible for observing and learning from the TDOC team of Electric Security System Specialist, programmers, Facility Administrators, Security Experts, and Safety Professionals. Minimum Qualifications:A student from a college or university pursuing a bachelors degree in information technology, computer science, electronics, or other closely related field. The student must be classified as a Junior or better.
