About the Department
NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship is housed within the Office of University Interdisciplinary Programs within the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, which provides leadership, direction and oversight for the programmatic planning and implementation of university-wide interdisciplinary programs and initiatives.
NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship's role is to build a culture of entrepreneurship at NC State. Using an interdisciplinary approach, we foster and teach innovation and entrepreneurship by providing resources and real-world experiences for students across the university. These include but are not limited to:

  • The Albright Entrepreneurship Garage, a co-working facility that provides resources for student start-ups
  • Academic courses that focus on entrepreneurial thinking
  • Co-curricular activities such as the VenturePack Challenge student start-up competition,
  • The Entrepreneurship Clinic that supports startup companies with student team projects,
  • Technology Commercialization programs that capitalize on the intellectual property developed at NC State,
  • Social and Sustainable Innovation and Entrepreneurship programs that provide students with an immersive project experience
  • Alumni involvement and engagement activities
  • College and Department based entrepreneurship programs

Essential Job Duties
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator oversees the marketing, communications and public relations efforts for NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IE). This position is essential in growing the momentum of IE. This position supervises multiple student marketing assistants (student employees).
General Scope of Duties
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is responsible for IE's marketing and communications efforts, that include:

  • Website management
  • Creation and coordination of marketing and communication materials
  • Social media management
  • Graphic design and content production and management
  • Consulting/Advising
  • Supervising


The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; outstanding interpersonal skills. Ability to build trust-based, respectful, and effective relationships both internally and externally.
  • Ability to operate independently. The IE team will provide ideas for stories, but the marketing and communications coordinator will be encouraged to develop plans, content, communications calendars, story ideas and publicity initiatives on their own.
  • Experience with marketing campaign development. A successful candidate will be able to develop and execute marketing campaigns, develop initiatives to boost and track growth in IE programs.
  • Excellent reporting and writing skills. Tasks will include writing feature articles about student activities, department events, research findings, student and faculty awards, and other topics.
  • Experience with graphic design and content production and management. This position will be responsible for all major graphic design responsibilities for IE.
  • Experience with content management systems, including WordPress, is required. The marketing and communications coordinator will post stories in a variety of management systems, including for social media channels and websites.
  • Experience with photography, video production and digital storytelling. This position will develop content for our website, social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X), newsletters and on-campus public display screens.
  • A creative, innovative and collaborative mindset.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; outstanding interpersonal skills;
  • Experience using social media technology for public relations and marketing;
  • Web-based design experience and a sound understanding of web content management systems (CMS);
  • Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail; ability to manage multiple and competing priorities;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple requests at once;
  • Good track record in managing projects and working with various team members to accomplish common objectives;
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat,
    Google Applications and similar applications;
  • Proficient in graphic design software (such as InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, HTML);
  • Proficient in web marketing tools such as Mailchimp; and
  • Proven track record of success working in a team-oriented environment; demonstrated ability to work in collaborative environments using shared data sources and online applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or Business Administration and two or more years of demonstrated experience related to marketing/communications/public relations.
  • Experience with marketing data analysis and communications strategy;
  • Familiarity with APA and NC State brand style and guidelines;
  • Strong preference for knowledge of entrepreneurship and technology;
  • Experience with startups, entrepreneurship or other directly related experience (ecosystem, etc.);
  • Strong preference for a candidate who understands and can connect with the student experience.
