Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic health care system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day. The Department of Radiology is a top-tier department with world-renowned faculty and staff.

A full-time academic abdominal radiology faculty position is available in the Department of Radiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

The University of Cincinnati Department of Radiology has 32 residents in diagnostic radiology, and 1 resident/year in the integrated Diagnostic Radiology/Interventional Radiology (DR/IR) residency. The section of abdominal imaging has 1-2 fellows each year.

Faculty members provide onsite clinical service at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) with primarily remote coverage of the other UC Health facilities. UCMC is the only adult Level 1 Trauma center in the greater Cincinnati area. We have an active transplant (liver, living related liver, kidney, pancreas, autologous islet cell, bone marrow, cardiac) program and outstanding multidisciplinary collaboration with multiple subspecialty programs. The UC Health academic health system has an integrated PACS/EMR/voice recognition system across the healthcare system. A fully functional home PACS workstation is provided.

The Department is collaborating with GE HealthCare on the creation of an MRI Research and Development Center of Excellence located on UC's medical campus. This center of excellence is one of only a handful in the world and will focus on patient research and fostering collaboration between academia and industry, as GE Healthcare scientists will also staff the facility.

This faculty position will work onsite with the opportunity for remote shifts, coordinated amongst the members of the abdominal imaging section.

Radiology faculty members will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.

Essential Functions

  • Radiology Faculty responsibilities include:

    • performing radiology imaging interpretations and related patient care services for patientsat the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) and other UC Health facilities; and
    • providing radiology physician services related to abdominal imaging diagnostic examinations and didactically teaching UCMC fellows, UCMC residents, and UC medical students through didactic lectures, interaction with learners in clinical setting; and evaluation of learners.


  • Vice Chair of Faculty Development responsibilities include:

    • building a thriving and supportive faculty culture that is based on programmatic mentorship ensuring every individual reaches their full potential;
    • meeting individually with Department of Radiology faculty regarding mentorship and career development;
    • performing a leadership role in appointment, promotion and tenure for Department of Radiology faculty, which involves providing guidance and mentorship to faculty at different stages in their career;
    • developing mentorship programs (including but not limited to mentorship teams, coaching, peer mentorship structures), team building activities (focused on leadership, followership and organizational empowerment), and fostering individual faculty career development;
    • facilitating faculty recruitment, hiring and onboarding;
    • overseeing promotion committees, particularly for junior faculty;
    • serving as a resource for section chiefs; in the case of a struggling section member, working with Section chief to develop a personalized development plan focused on mitigating any deficiencies;
    • providing leadership and facilitation of various external career development and enrichment opportunities; e.g., leadership training; nominating faculty for awards and faculty development programs (for example, the Alpha Omega Alpha, medical honorary society.);
    • facilitating Visiting Professor lectures in the department;
    • encouraging faculty participation in educational activities/tumor boards/scholarly activities, and oversight of academic time productivity.



Essential Functions (cont)

There are opportunities for participation in education administration, which involves leading administrative tasks such as but not limited to resident/fellow recruitment efforts, performance evaluations, and ACGME program compliance tasks for the Department's residency and fellowship programs.

Minimum Requirements

Prior to the date of appointment, all of the following:



  • Medical degree (MD/DO)
  • Ohio medical license
  • Four years of post-graduate radiology residency training
  • One year of fellowship training in Body Imaging or Abdominal Radiology.
