About Nezami Lab
The Nezami Lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital (a Harvard Medical School affiliate) is dedicated to advancing surgical innovation and precision medicine through a multidisciplinary approach that combines robotics, control systems, computer vision, and biomedical engineering. Our team integrates cutting-edge research in AI, system modeling, and device design to develop intelligent solutions for complex surgical and clinical applications.
Position Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated Research Scientist with expertise in computer vision and control systems design to support the development and evaluation of an innovative medical technology platform. The ideal candidate will play a key role in conducting technical and financial feasibility studies, optimizing system architecture, and contributing to the creation of a preliminary functional prototype.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct technical feasibility studies and contribute to the system design of robotic and computer vision-based applications
* Implement and test control algorithms for mechanical systems, including feedback and real-time control strategies
* Apply computer vision techniques for image-guided navigation, object detection, and real-time visual tracking
* Evaluate system components from a cost-efficiency perspective and assist in early-stage prototyping
* Collaborate with engineers, clinicians, and researchers to refine system design and translate findings into functional outcomes
* Support documentation and reporting for internal use, grant submissions, and publications
Position Duration: June-August 2025 (3 months, with potential for extension)

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Robotics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficiency in control systems design, kinematics, dynamics, and robotic system integration
  • Strong experience in computer vision (e.g., OpenCV, ROS, 3D reconstruction, object tracking)
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping tools and platforms (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi, MATLAB/Simulink, SolidWorks)
  • Familiarity with technical and cost feasibility analysis, project planning, and iterative design
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively

Why Join Us?

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-impact translational research project at the intersection of robotics, control theory, and healthcare innovation. You will gain hands-on experience developing next-generation clinical tools and collaborate closely with a team of clinicians, engineers, and scientists at one of the nation's leading research hospitals.
