What You'll Do in This Position

SRNS is seeking to hire a senior fellow engineer as a Consolidated Hazards Analysis (CHA) lead for our Nuclear and Criticality Safety Engineer (N&CSE) Analytical Support group.

Specific tasks as a Senior Hazards Analyst include leading CHA teams through hazard identification, hazard evaluation, accident description, event progression, and controls selection for the Consolidated Hazards Analysis of various facilities and processes at SRS. This includes, but is not limited to, assessing internal operational events and external events (both of which include fires, explosions, and loss of confinement) and natural phenomena events (including seismic and high wind/tornado).

General expectations of the position are to:
- Initiate own technical programs
- Bring high technical credibility in field of expertise to the
organization
- Recognize all aspects of SRNS needs in field of expertise
and lead teams to solve complex technical problems
- Apply technical experience in field of specialization (or
broad-based experience in multiple technical fields) and
use other technical resources, both internal and external
to SRNS, to resolve complex problems.
- Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety
of complex features (such as, complicated technical
requirements, application of new or special materials or
processes, and difficult coordination or oversight
requirements) into problem solving and program
planning.
- Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex
problems and be recognized as having expertise in a
functional area of technical specialization.
- Recommend research programs for others in the group
and assist in that planning.
- Develop solutions to complex technical problems in
areas of expertise
- Prepare plans including schedules, budgets, and
personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks
for the department.
- Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor
expenditures of budget, and review quality of work
performed and include research, development, testing,
and quality assurance requirements.
- Communicate results verbally and in manuscripts form.
- Report regularly the results and represent SRNS and
SRS in technical areas to oversight groups and
professional societies.
- Mentor less senior professionals as a means of
transferring technical knowledge and insight and
possibly in communication skills.
- Maintain excellent technical credibility by contributing
significantly toward meeting Site missions and goals,
which may be demonstrated by issuing reports, making
presentations, and /or involvement in national technical
organizations.
- Recommend engineering and technology research,
development, and application programs for others and a
assist in the planning of such programs.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications We Require

Bachelor degree in applicable science or engineering discipline

Other Qualifications

Prior experience within the DOE complex (preferable) or the nuclear industry leading Hazards Analysis teams and documenting the results for subsequent activities (e.g., Accident Analysis calculations, Documented Safety Analysis (DSAs), etc.) is required.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.
