General Maintenance Worker Intern (Job Corps Students)

Location: Fort Riley, Kansas - Total Facilities Maintenance (TFM)

Type: Non-Exempt - 6-week paid internship

Compensation: $18.55 - $18.55/hour

Tessera is seeking a dedicated and hard working GMW Intern with a can-do attitude. Please note this internship is in partnership with Flint Hill Job Corps' Work Based Learning Program and only available to Job Corps students. As the General Maintenance Worker Intern, you will be assisted and/or supervised by a skilled tradesman and foreman who have mastered tasks in the required areas.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist skilled workers in performing various electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or masonry work.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of building, ground, and equipment.
  • Communicates and interacts directly with the customer and supervisors, informing the customer of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Ensures completed work meets quality control standards.
  • Communicates with scheduler to update status of repairs, estimate completion dates and additional material requirements.
  • Follows all Safety Procedures and Policies.
  • Maintain professionalism in both appearance and demeanor.
  • Assist skilled workers in performing various electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or masonry work.

Qualifications:

  • Equivalent combination of experience and education is 1-2 years of experience in general maintenance/construction work, and/or training with aptitude to perform the work.
  • Communicate with others in a courteous and helpful way.
  • Must be able to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and/or written instructions.
  • Must be able to tell time and count work hours.
  • Must be able to work in and contribute to a team.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in a variety of different environments including high places.
  • Must have good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, physical fitness, and a good sense of balance.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • Must be a Job Corps student to be considered.
  • A valid State Driver license and ability to obtain and maintain coverage on Tessera's auto insurance policy are required/preferred.
