Empowering Future Innovators: Lead, Inspire, and Transform STEAM Education - the YMCA is now hiring a Youth Development Director for STEAM Programs!
The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) Director facilitates execution of STEAM programming across the Association including School-aged OST (out of school time), Day Camp operations, and other youth programming. This person is responsible for assisting in the development and scaling of high-quality STEAM-focused curriculum and programming across the Association, including developing operational supports, curriculum resources, sourcing, organizing, and overseeing programs with external partners, and providing ongoing professional development for staff.
Salary range for this position starts at $50,000 per year with full-time benefits and opportunities to grow within the organization.

Responsibilities:


  • Contributes to the Association-wide vision for STEAM teaching and learning in current or new programming
  • Creates and/or sources curricula and staff programming guideswith content for drop-in programs, weekly art & science clubs, and other STEAM programming for children and teens
  • Develops, implements and manages a portfolio of week-long STEAM day camps at Y owned sites or offsite locations
  • Coordinates STEAM programming logistics including the purchasing, organization, distribution, maintenance, and tracking of supplies andmaterials
  • Assists in planning, producing, publicizing, and conducting youth programs aligned to the YMCA strategy and connectedlearning models
  • Supports and leads regional STEAM teams to train, supervise and schedule full and part time staff members
  • Develops and models effective coaching relationships
  • Demonstrates and creates a tinkering and curiosity-based learning environment
  • Coordinates and facilitates ongoing and responsive professional learning for staff
  • Visit schools and other community organizations to promote YMCA enrichment partnerships to administration and families
  • Visits STEAM programs to provide pedagogical and technical guidance and support to staff
  • Liaises with internal stakeholders to support programs including IT, marketing, and purchasing
  • Develops and monitors department budget
  • Assists grants team in sourcing funding, fulfilling grant requirements, and reporting metrics
  • Supports the mission and vision of the Y in all work aspects


Minimum/Preferred Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in education or related field
  • Minimum of three years' experience facilitating programming K-12 in a formal and/or informal setting. Experience teaching STEAM content to diverse youth or adults (e.g. art, general science, digital media production, engineering, or coding & robotics)essential.
  • At least 1 year in a supervisory role preferred, including overseeing full-time employees
  • Passion for and commitment to the YMCA's mission and vision
  • Enjoys using creative technology tools with children and teen
  • Experience in curriculum building and ability to teach others
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across many different departments; strong consulting skills withthe ability influence others, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to coordinate work with many different external constituencies
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, including project management and organizational skills, with thedemonstrated ability to effectively structure work and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, video conferencing, email, etc.
  • Strategic and critical thinking skills with the ability to adapt ideas at scale operationally
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt message to audience, includingthe ability to serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for the YMCA

  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
  • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
