Enbridge is looking for a Safety Champion to facilitate, monitor and support implementation of the Safety Management System elements, programs, standards, and practices within the region. What You Will Do:

  • Provide subject matter expertise to lead consistent and effective development and implementation of the Safety Management System and the Pipeline and Process Safety Management System and its supporting processes and programs within the region.

  • Responsible for providing safety leadership by influencing, promoting, developing, coordinating, and facilitating safety culture, safety awareness and safety recognition initiatives. This includes leading the resolution of complex safety issues.

  • Work with the Regional leadership teams to facilitate the development of safety culture improvement plans based on the results of safety culture assessments.

  • Coach and support regional management and influence the behaviors of line management personnel to fulfill their safety leadership expectations.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with field personnel through pro-active involvement in field activities and a regular presence in the field.

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and support regional safety representatives in execution of their roles.

  • Serve as an on-site safety advisor during fieldwork activities as required.

  • Act as a conduit for communications between the Region and the Health & Safety Department on safety related matters.

  • Coordinate regional change requests and collect l input into changes requested by others.

  • Lead the Regional implementation of the contractor safety management program.

  • Conduct and /or participate in and/or review regional safety inspections and observations; quality reviews, trend and analyze data, identify areas for improvement and responsible for the development of corrective action plans and resolutions.

  • Support, monitor and review implementation of the hazard assessment program to ensure its effectiveness.

  • Participate as a safety SME in process hazard assessments, management of change reviews, and project turnover activities and actively promote process safety programs.

  • Assist in the development and monitoring of regional safety budgets and in the research and procurement of safety services and materials as required.

  • Support the annual employee medical evaluation process (fit test, PFT, audiometric).

  • Provide Regional level leadership on industrial hygiene and process safety management functions.

  • Assume the role of safety officer or a safety support role within the Incident Command System during emergencies and emergency response exercises. This will include being the regional lead in the Incident Command System.

  • Be the regional lead safety contact with regulators and other 3rd parties completing safety audits, reviews, inspections and/or investigations and lead the development and timely completion of associated corrective action plans.

  • Promote industry best practices by monitoring industry trends and identifying new technologies.

Who You Are:
You have the following education & experience:

  • Related university degree and four-plus years' experience OR seven-plus years of previous field operations experience, OR equivalent mix of formal education and experience.

  • At least 4 years of relevant health & safety experience within the oil, gas or petrochemical sectors

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel applications

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills including an ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders at all levels

  • Valid driver's license

  • Ability to travel required up to 50%

  • Passport for travel outside United States

Preferred:

  • Bachelor or Associate degree in Occupational Health and Safety

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other Professional Safety Certification

Working Conditions:

  • Work Office environment requiring extensive work on computer, networking with partners, research of technical issues and development of plans and reports.

  • Frequent field work and travel expectations for audits, reviews, inspections, assessments, meetings, training and field safety support as assigned.

  • Flexibility required working extended hours when required to manage work priorities, accommodate field schedules and address stakeholder needs.

  • Flexibility to travel for extended periods (approx. 10 days) and work extended hours as required (infrequent) for emergency response support.

Physical Requirements:
Include but are not limited to: Grasping, kneeling, light - moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement.

Mental Requirements:
Include but are not limited to: Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.
