Job Description:

As a Digital Forensics Consultant in our Digital Forensics practice, you will play a key role in conducting detailed digital forensic examinations, supporting evidence collection, and analyzing electronic data in a forensically sound manner. This position requires clear communication of technical findings to internal team members, legal teams, and clients through standard business communications, formal reports, and presentations. You'll be working out of our Chicago office, including active participation in client engagements from start to finish, while ensuring evidence integrity and adherence to internal policies. The Digital Forensics Consultant is expected to contribute to team initiatives and pursue ongoing professional development through training, certifications, and networking. This is a dynamic position that blends hands-on forensic work with client interaction and continuous learning to support high-quality investigative outcomes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Evidence intake, management, and evidence return while maintaining the chain of custody
* Follow processes and procedures
* Provide ongoing support for Crowe's Digital Forensic Lab in the Chicago office
* Conduct forensic examinations on various digital devices, such as computers, mobile phones, tablets, and storage media, to identify, collect, and analyze relevant evidence
* Utilize specialized forensic software and tools to extract, recover, and analyze digital evidence, including deleted files, internet history, emails, and social media activity
* Document and maintain detailed records of all forensic procedures, techniques, and findings in accordance with established protocols and standards
* Assist in the preparation of comprehensive forensic reports and presentations summarizing findings and conclusions
* Provide timely responses to engagement leads
* Work concurrently on multiple ongoing engagements/projects
* Assist in other related areas of the company as needed or required
* Stay current with industry trends and new forensic tools and methodologies
* Complete annual training and certification as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Digital Forensics, Cybersecurity, or related field required

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience conducting hands-on digital forensics investigations required

  • Effective communicator (both written and verbal)

  • Detail-oriented, thorough, and process-driven

  • Able to focus on and perform routine tasks with a high degree of accuracy

  • Highly organized and flexible

  • Able to multitask and meet changing deadlines

  • Must be able to complete projects with limited supervision

  • Capable of following forensically sound processes

  • Able to recognize and escalate potential issues

  • Professional demeanor and motivated self-starter

  • Team player

  • Experience with collecting data from computers, mobile devices, and cloud sources

  • Travel required 10-20% annually

Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior experience providing digital forensics services to Law Firms or Corporate Legal Departments
* One or more industry standard forensic certifications such as: Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE), Certified Forensic Examiner (GCFE), EnCase Certified Examiner (EnCE), AccessData Certified Examiner (ACE), Certified Computer Examiner (CCE), or EC-Council, ISACA, (ISC)2, & GIAC related forensic certifications
* Experience with computer networking, data security, and computer hardware
* Experience with writing scripts in Python or other scripting language

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Crowe, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $63,000.00 - $113,400.00 per year.
