Truck Driver

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Truck Driver operates a tractor trailer to deliver material from plant to plant or distribution center

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

o Operates semi-truck with one trailer according to state laws; transports load over required route to proper destination, observing all traffic laws and safety regulations

o Follows all dock safety procedures specific to securing a trailer to the facility for loading/unloading

o Ensures shipping documents are on trailer for the receiving personnel to accept load; maintains any related records required

o Performs miscellaneous service duties such as checking, on a daily basis, oil, water, diesel, and air in tires; reports any maintenance malfunctions to Traffic/Logistics Manager

• Other duties and Responsibilities

o Sweeps out trailer when not busy

o Switches empty/full trailers in shipping dock area and yard

o Conducts various projects as assigned by his or her manager

o Follows all state, federal, and company safety rules/regulations

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • A minimum of 5 years of accident free experience is required
• Tact and diplomacy required in dealing with personnel at delivery points
• High degree of attention and considerable dexterity in the control of tractor trailer and in preventing damage to materials and trailer equipment
• Must meet Department of Transportation physical and medical requirements and pass substance abuse screening; as a safety sensitive employee, subject to random substance abuse screening under company policy

JOB REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS

• Education/Certification Requirements

o Valid Class A CDL License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Frequently sitting in truck cab for long periods of time
• Frequent getting in/out of tractor
• Ability to hand crank the trailer dollies with a high degree of frequency per day
• Ability to lift and move 40-pound wooden skid or pallet

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Provide a brief description of the physical requirements of the job and the work environment in which the job is performed.

• Time is primarily spent driving from one location to another
• Ability to operate safely in various weather conditions
• Ability to work in Distribution Center/Manufacturing lots with limited space
