Director - Young Authors Day Camp

For over 72 years Cranbrook has offered the community the opportunity to share in the Booth family's vision to develop and nurture the creative and performing arts. Founded upon the principle that all young people can benefit and enrich their lives from exposure to music and art; Young Authors Day Camp has been a treasured part of the Schools' programming and community outreach. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Hire, train, manage, and evaluate staff
  • Meet budget requirements
  • Purchase supplies
  • Setup and breakdown camp spaces
  • Develop and operate program
  • Act as main contact for parents regarding all aspects of the camp
  • Maintain accreditation and licensing standards and rules
  • Create and maintain policies for program


Qualifications Required:



  • Due to state licensing and American Camp Association accreditation requirements, applicants must be at least 25 years of age or older.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
  • A minimum of two years administrative, supervisory and childcare experience
  • Superior problem-solving skills and management skills
  • Ability to effectively relate to campers, staff, and parents


Preferred: Prior experience in any of these areas: Camp Administration, Camp Program experience, Child Development, or Performance Development.

Timeframe: June 16 to August 8; Weekdays only except first and last. Must be able to work the entire length of camp. Orientation is June 12 - June 14.

Please Note: Directors are year-round employees. Pre-Season (January - May) and Post-Season (September - December) involve minimal hours spent working on updating camp programs, interviewing candidates for the summer camp season, and exploring professional development offered by the American Camp Association. Work hours during the camp session (June - August) are 40 hours per week, generally 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Wage: $23.50 per hour

Benefits: Lunch provided during camp session; discounts for children/grandchildren.
