Description

Job Description

The Strader lab employs multi-disciplinary approaches to understand how plants integrate environmental cues to drive plant growth and development. The primary focus of the lab is on the plant hormone auxin. Understanding the molecular details of how auxin 'works' has revealed strategies plants use to alter growth in response to environmental stimuli. As they learn this molecular grammar, the lab strives to design systems and circuits that enable climate resilience in agricultural settings. For more information about recent Strader lab publications, please visit https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=wE9QVowAAAAJ&hl=en.

The lab takes approaches that include molecular biology, structural biology, synthetic biology, biochemistry/biophysics, and genetics, providing a robust and strong training environment. In addition, the lab is highly collaborative and frequently hosts visiting scientists, which allows trainees to develop working relationships with multiple scientists, providing a mentoring network both scientifically and professionally.

The Strader lab is currently seeking a highly motivated and independent postdoctoral fellow to support their efforts. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, plant biology or related field, the ability to organize and execute experiments, the ability to analyze data, excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to interact professionally with a diverse scientific team, critical thinking skills, strong organizational/record keeping skills, and keen attention to detail.

Education:

  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, plant biology or related field

Experience

The successful candidate must have experience conducting independent and productive research. The candidate will have the opportunity to frame new innovative questions around their expertise and curiosity, aligned with the overall lab mission.

Job location is in Salk Main Campus

Who We Are

The Salk Institute is an internationally renowned research institution that values all members of our scientific community. We seek bold and interactive leaders passionate about exploring new frontiers in science. Our collaborative community embraces perspectives across discipline, professional acumen, and unique life experiences, fostering innovation, and a sense of belonging. Together, we strive to improve the wellbeing of humanity through groundbreaking research.

Founded by Jonas Salk, developer of the first safe and effective polio vaccine, the Institute is an independent, nonprofit research organization and architectural landmark: small by choice, intimate by nature, and fearless in the face of any challenge. Salk's vibrant community has many talented individuals from varied backgrounds, each playing a crucial role in driving our mission forward. From visionary leaders to dedicated administrators and brilliant faculty members, the Institute is united by a shared passion for scientific exploration and innovation.

Salk Values

The Salk Community, both scientists and administrators, worked together to define values that we believe support Salk's pursuit of excellence. To be truly the best scientific institution requires not only incredible discoveries, but a common understanding of how we should work together to enable those discoveries.

The acronym "I CARE" provides a simple way to remember each of the values and reminds each of us of the importance of what we do each day.
