Job Summary
Dorman is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Strategic Engineering Resource Team (SERT). As a Mechanical Engineer for Dorman, you willimplementand coordinatevariousengineering projects that will support the development and improvement of our products, as directed by the Engineering Manager. This includes the measurement, evaluation, and documentation of product characteristics with respect to function, reliability, and quality.We are seeking an engineer who can think outside the box and use creative methods to solve problems and develop new solutions. This is a hybrid role, in our corporate headquarters in suburban Philadelphia (Colmar, PA) Monday through Thursday with the ability to work from home on Friday.
Primary Duties
- Work with product line managers and purchasing to aid in the development of product utilizing reverse engineering best practices.
- Identify testing and manufacturing requirements based on part performance considerations and assist in supplier selection.
- Produce product documentation that sufficiently identifies product dimensional and performance requirements.
- Direct, coordinate, or fabricate prototype product samples and test equipment builds.
- Confer with the product team to prepare and implement design modificationsand manage changes.
- Manage the requirements for PPAP and review accompanying documentation.
- Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional, reliability and quality requirements.
- Interpret process certifications and flow charts to identify process weaknesses and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Create and maintain the requirements for incomingand sourceinspection processes.
- Evaluate product warranty information, root cause quality concerns and implement design/process improvements.
- Track inter-team projects to maintain compliance to procedure and appropriate actions at various project milestones.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Reverse engineering or product development experience
- Thorough knowledge of SolidWorksor,other CAD software
- Thorough knowledge of GD&T drafting techniques
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Access
- Knowledge of EPDM or other PDM software
- Understanding of manufacturingcapabilities;i.e.machining, stamping, casting, injection molding, electronics assembly
- Basic knowledge of automotive mechanical & electrical systems
- Experience in cross-functional team
- Physical Requirement:Capability to lift 20 pounds.
- Working Conditions:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach, swivel, carry items from one location to another, and speak and actively listen.Noiselevel is usually moderate.
Education / Experience
- Technical degree (BS) in mechanical engineeringwith 3+ years of experience; or
- Associate degree with 5+ years of experience
