Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Structural Engineer - Hybrid - Hauppauge, NY

In this position, you would serve an important role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of a diverse range of projects across the region. With a current focus on transportation-related projects, but with the potential to work on exciting new projects including those in our growing Waterfront/Coastal practice. The ideal candidate should possess a "can-do" attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast paced, and fun environment. The position includes significant opportunities for personal and professional development and growth within VHB's emerging New York/Long Island offices.

Responsibilities

    Manages, develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for transportation related and waterfront structures
  • Project scoping and development
  • Supervises and mentors team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc. Provides technical oversight and review of structural designs.
  • Monitors of project budgets and schedules
  • Assists with proposals and presentations

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural, geotechnical, and marine engineering
  • Must possess strong technical skills with knowledge of various structural systems and codes
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • Robust technical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with a team of staff working remotely
  • Enthusiasm to learn, seek out opportunities, and take responsibility
  • Motivated to mentor junior staff
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in the use of structural engineering software such as STAAD.pro, RISA 3D, PCA Design Software, RAM Steel, Tekla, MathCAD, Revit, Microstation, and AutoCAD

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required, master's degree preferred (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
  • 8-11 years of structural engineering experience required.
  • Licensed PE (Professional Engineer) required
  • Experience working on projects owned and operated by private developers, municipalities, and public agencies
  • OSHA 30 Construction certification preferred

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Hauppauge, NY is $123,000-165,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
