Description:

The Financial Systems Corporate Experience team drives value-adding feature development and exceptional support for critical applications supporting finance and accounting business partners. We are looking for a seasoned finance systems analyst who can partner with both technical and accounting professionals to learn, enhance, and support our most complex financial system functionality. We want an individual contributor to truly own the execution and optimize support for our business partners of complex accounting and tax calculation functionality. We want a thought leader to help advance our goals of Agile maturity, propose customer experience optimization, and bring influence on future capabilities and opportunities to solve business problems in creative ways.

What we are looking for: A systems-minded, accounting-focused team member who thrives on learning new processes and systems. Strong judgment and communication skills needed as you assess accounting requirements and problems against system design and operation, partnering with technical developers to design software coding solutions. You will roll up your sleeves and become a systems functionality expert in innovative custom modules that perform complex calculations and produce critical accounting output.

You will spend time meeting with functional users in areas such as accounting, finance, asset management, and procurement/payables to explore, understand and document process and system pain points. You'll also work closely with developers and test automation team members to design, test, and implement functionality.

You will enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Understand and develop deep knowledge in complex accounting processes such as intersegment accounting and tax
  • Facilitate the process of gathering and documenting requirements from the accounting organization, assist on the creation of system design documents and work with IT team to complete requirements and test system solutions
  • Perform Business and System Analysis tasks such as requirement grooming, process documentation, and hands-on system testing of functionality
  • Lead conversations with development and accounting teams to identify improvement opportunities, propose system modifications, and devise data governance strategies to support accounting standards
  • Provide exceptional communication though verbal, written, and presentations to both functional and technical audiences
  • Lead with accountability in all situations, including decisions, actions, and directives with respect to job responsibilities
  • Provides feedback to management concerning possible problems or areas of improvement
  • Respond to and create action plans for issues encountered by accounting teams through their month end process, recommend and communicate corrective actions or changes, report those requiring IT/Development involvement, and assist IT in issue resolution
  • Document current state business processes with respect to an internally developed accounting system, including automation, exception handling, and issue resolution
  • Ability to quickly become proficient with, a range of general and specialized applications, used in the organization such as accounting tools and databases
  • Troubleshoot problems on complex accounting data sets and use effective data analytics skills to identify, analyze, and interpret how issues impact the tool as a whole

Required Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma/ GED (or higher)
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting/finance topics such as allocations, tax, journal creation, etc.
  • 3+ years of Accounting/Data/Systems Analyst experience with knowledge of proper requirements specification and development, such as process/functional requirements definition) methods, use case development, process flow diagrams, etc.
  • 3+ years of experience in manipulating, handling, analyzing large data sets in Excel, Access, SQL Server, etc.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Software Engineering or related analytical field
  • Experience with intercompany accounting
  • Experience with query tools / database structures (i.e. SQL Server, PeopleSoft, Smartview, Oracle DB, SAS, Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience influencing with technical and business leadership through verbal and written communications
  • High proficiency with Finance/Accounting functionality within an ERP such as PeopleSoft, Oracle ERP, Workday
  • High level of aptitude/interest in becoming a systems expert for areas of expertise
  • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Ability to manage tasks and deliverables utilizing basic Project Management techniques (including but not limited to creating project plans with milestones, tracking deliverables, providing status, managing issues / risks)

  • Exceptional communication skills to engage various audiences across the organization

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
