Position Summary:
This position reports to the CHRO in the New York Office. The HR Generalist supports the firm's human resources functions, ensuring compliance with applicable employment laws and firm policies. This role will manage core HR functions including recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, compliance, employee relations and performance management. The HR Generalist will work closely with legal and non-legal staff to maintain a positive, professional, and productive work environment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruitment, Onboarding and Offboarding
- Manage the full recruitment life cycle for staff.
- Post job openings, screen candidates, coordinate interviews, and manage offer processes.
- Conduct new hire orientations and ensure a smooth onboarding experience.
- Coordinate the firm's exit procedures for departing personnel, including conducting exit interviews and ensuring compliance with all firm and office procedures.
- Benefits Administration
- Coordinate new hire enrollment, annual open enrollment, ongoing benefits education, and communication.
- Serve as the primary contact for benefits-related questions and claims management.
- Prepare and submit all insurance-related billings, identify, and resolve billing and payroll discrepancies.
- Arrange in-house Blood Drives, Flu Clinics and oversee safety programs such as First Aid, CPR & AED Trainings.
- HR Systems & Reporting
- Maintain HRIS systems, generate scheduled and ad-hoc reports.
- Utilize E-verify to verify work authorization and maintain all I-9 records.
- Recommend improvements to HR processes and procedures for better efficiency and compliance.
- Prepare all employment-related forms for staff, paralegals and attorneys. ???????
- Compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Maintain employee files and records in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
- Assist with audits and reporting (e.g., EEO-1, ACA compliance).
- Employee Relations
- Serve as a resource for employees regarding HR policies, procedures, and employee relations issues.
- Address employee concerns, escalate complex issues, and support conflict resolution.
- Performance Management
- Assist with the annual review process, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
- Track employee performance documentation and ensure proper follow-through.
Education and General Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of HR experience, preferably in a professional services or law firm environment.
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
- Experience handling confidential information with integrity and discretion.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong work ethic with the willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities.
- Ability to work extended hours to fulfill time-sensitive responsibilities.
- PHR, SHRM-CP certification preferred but not required.
