Hourly Pay Range:

$18.84 - $27.32 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:

  • Position: Research Assistant in Surgery
  • Location: Evanston, IL
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
  • Hours: Monday - Friday: 8:00am to 4:30pm
  • Required Travel: None

What you will do:

  • The Research Assistant will play a key support role in surgical clinical trials and research studies, overseeing the ongoing development and maintenance of patient databases

  • Ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and compliance using edit checks and data validation strategies, managing queries and discrepancies, and communicating data issues and resolutions effectively in collaboration with the research team
  • Assisting in the development of study protocols and materials, as well as comprehending and maintaining existing clinical research protocols
  • Research protocol upkeep, which may include institutional review board approvals, study documentation, and revision or submission of any other pertinent information applicable to studies
  • Identify, recruit, and usher study subjects through the study process by screening potential subjects, obtaining informed consent, scheduling and coordinating participant visits and follow-ups, or collecting patient questionnaires
  • Collect, record, and manage study data, ensuring compliance with protocols, monitoring for inconsistencies and deviations, and adverse events
  • Attend weekly research meetings to discuss study progress, provide database summaries to review data, and prepare data for the research team to present manuscripts and abstracts for submission
  • Ensure study adheres to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), institutional and federal regulatory requirements, and safety reporting promptly to ensure quality subject care
  • Assist with audits and inspections, and sponsor communication, which may require preparation and documentation for monitor visits
  • Manage study supplies and equipment, ensuring functionality and viability, inclusive of drug and device accountability
  • Assist with research team orientation or training when appropriate to provide full study team coverage and assure quality of study progression while maintaining confidentiality at all times

What you will need:

  • Education: Baccalaureate degree required
  • Experience: Research experience preferred or strong science background, as well as strong comprehension of medical terminology, while experience in medical abstraction and electronic medical record systems is favorable
  • Skills: Excellent computer skills and ability to adapt to new technology; must have great time management, organizational, and prioritization skills; can communicate professionally and sensitively with medical personnel, research subjects, and staff; must be able to work independently or with minimal supervision, show initiative, and adaptability
