DESCRIPTION

The Senior Psychometrist is responsible for: Independent administration of psychometric measures; Scoring of data generated by testing procedures; Data management; Interviewing of complex patients; Scheduling; and Clerical and administrative duties. The incumbent will perform independent administration of various psychometric measures, following strictly standardized procedures; accurately administer complex tests for populations including children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients suffering from cognitive functioning deficits including but not limited to traumatic brain injury, stroke, Parkinson's disease, concussions, learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, dementia, bipolar, Asperger's and autistic patients.

Ensures that all the tests, methods and scoring procedures are uniform and precise, and that conclusions drawn from test results are verified and reliable. Administers complex tests that focus on the brain-behavior relationships as they relate to attention, verbal ability, learning and memory, spatial organization, initiation of behavior, abstract thinking, intelligence, academic achievement, and mood personality. Revise protocols according to different patient's needs. Inform, educate patients and staff about neuropsychological evaluation process. Communicate with the Billing department regarding patient payment and insurance issues.

This position also interfaces with the public and other UCSD and non-UCSD professionals and represents Neuropsychological Associates clinic at UCSD Outpatient Psychiatry Services in Hillcrest in addition to La Jolla Clinics. Responsibilities include answering telephones; scheduling patients; general clerical duties such as managing patient files and ordering testing supplies; and managing referral and scheduling work queues in EPIC. Communicates with patients regarding their insurance coverage. Performs other administrative duties and responsibilities as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from college with a major in psychology or a closely related field including training in administering and scoring individual and group psychological tests, and two (2) years of experience in psychometric testing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in clinical rating skills and ability to strictly adhere to standardized scoring procedures on multiple tests.

  • Demonstrated ability in interviewing complex patients and the ability to accurately hear and record patient responses to test stimuli.

  • Experience in keeping careful and thorough behavioral notes of patient demeanor during interviews and testing, sufficient for use in making conclusions regarding patient's performance and effort towards test taking.

  • Working knowledge of psychological and mental health terms.

  • Proficient in using computer to run software scoring programs, type behavioral notes, and print needed items.

  • Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and skill in managing patient scheduling so that referrals to the neuropsychological clinic are handled efficiently.

  • Ability to relate professionally and maintain an appropriate clinical demeanor toward a wide variety of patients, over an extensive period.

  • Proven ability to thoroughly and accurately score all test responses and to give proper weight to all relevant responses.

  • Ability to maintain friendly, helpful, non-obtrusive attitude towards all patients, employing patience and flexibility as needed to successfully conclude all tests scheduled.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with legal cases and knowledge necessary to complete testing that can be relied upon to be used in a court of law, which includes child welfare cases, as well as personal injury lawsuits.
  • Proven ability to work well with children, as young as age 5.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with children, as well as having skill in administering and scoring tests.
  • Skill in handling crisis situations involving patients having emotional outbursts or physical emergencies.
  • Knowledge of brain-behavior relationships and ability to explain details of the evaluation to patients, and other individuals who inquire about UCSD Neuropsychological Associates.
  • Knowledge of how to correctly complete billing abstract form and use proper CPT and diagnostic codes.
  • Proven ability to train and lead students and/or new employees in the department.
  • Skilled in teaching and directing others regarding the neuropsychological evaluation process.
  • Familiarity with the use of an electronic medical record, especially EPIC

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,041 - $79,169 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.76 - $37.92

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
