Summary

The Energy Engineering Intern will support our California energy efficiency programs. The qualified individual must have a strong desire to work in a fast-paced environment involving the evaluation and calculation of energy efficiency measures (EEMs) in a variety of commercial building types. The Intern will support a team focused on implementing Energy Efficiency Programs for Willdan's utility customers and must be able to work effectively with multiple parties simultaneously. This internship may require some local travel within Southern CA for in-the-field assessments as needed and will require a hybrid work schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform utility data analysis and benchmarking.
  • Screen and process potential energy efficiency and electrification projects.
  • Collect data needed to complete data analysis and processing for projects.
  • Support engineering team in composing project workbooks.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Program Teams as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  • Occasionally, accompany Project Engineers on site walks to identify opportunities for energy-efficient technologies, including heat pump water heaters (HPWHs).
  • Engage with trade professionals to document existing equipment conditions and assess installation feasibility of proposed technologies.
  • Conduct energy analysis for projects through use of spreadsheet calculations including performing data analysis of vendor-provided information and equipment verification.
  • Conduct effective research related to energy measures via utility work papers, EnergyStar qualification lists, and specification sheets.
  • Assist in the company's project improvement process by refining calculation spreadsheet templates and compiling information from various projects to be used as references for future projects.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year university, in good academic standing.
  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Available to work for 40 hours per week.
  • Exposure to detailed analysis, either through classes, research, personal projects, etc.
  • Interest in energy and sustainability industries.
  • Familiarity with California's initiatives toward energy efficiency and decarbonization.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to thrive in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks to ensure timely delivery of high-quality deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders while delivering excellent customer service in a highly dynamic growth environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, evolving, entrepreneurial work environment.
