Minimal Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility for licensure in Missouri



Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Previous teaching or simulation experience



Work Hours
Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; however, may be assigned to different shifts and/or district locations with a minimum notice of one week. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs.


Compensation
The annual salary is $54,867-$58,159. A competitive benefit package is included.

Class Summary
The Skills Lab Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the nursing skills lab ensuring it serves as an effective learning environment for students. This role includes instructional and supervisory duties for students during skills lab hours, maintaining and updating lab equipment (e.g., simulators, patient beds), and managing the procurement of supplies. The coordinator will collaborate with faculty to align lab activities with course objectives and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This position provides an opportunity to play a vital role in preparing nursing students for clinical excellence while managing a state-of-the-art learning facility.


Typical Essential Duties
1. Instructional Support:

  • Supervise and teach students during skills lab hours, including skills practice, demonstrations, and remediation.
  • Develop and implement simulation scenarios using low, mid, and high-fidelity simulators to enhance clinical reasoning skills.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to plan teaching strategies that align with course outcomes.


2. Lab Management:

  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe lab environment in compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the scheduling of lab space in coordination with faculty for courses, practice sessions, and special activities.
  • Monitor student attendance and maintain records of skill performance.

3. Equipment Maintenance:

  • Ensure all lab equipment, including simulators and patient beds, is properly maintained, updated, and repaired as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment or coordinate with vendors for repairs/maintenance.
  • Research and recommend new equipment or technology to enhance learning.

4. Supply Management:

  • Conduct inventory of supplies and equipment regularly.
  • Order necessary supplies within budget constraints to ensure uninterrupted lab operations.
  • Dispose of hazardous materials safely in accordance with regulations.

5. Student Support:

  • Provide individualized assistance to students requiring additional practice or remediation.
  • Serve as a mentor to students in mastering clinical skills.

6. Collaboration:

  • Work closely with faculty to integrate lab activities into the broader nursing curriculum.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and contribute to curriculum development related to skills training.

7. Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure the lab meets all health and safety standards.
  • Maintain proper documentation for compliance purposes.



Knowledge

Skills

  • Proficiency in operating simulation equipment and other nursing lab technologies.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Well-developed knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of nursing procedures and equipment, including knowledge of drug computation techniques.
  • Ability to relate positively with students and to maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers.
  • Ability to handle confidential material appropriately.

Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Working Conditions:

  • Indoors in normal nursing laboratory environment.
  • Public contact position requiring apparel appropriate to the job duties.
