Position Overview: Lipscomb University is currently accepting applicants for a sports dietitian position. This position will assist the Director of Sports Nutrition in overseeing the daily operations required to deliver performance nutrition support to Lipscomb University's 15 NCAA DI sports. Lipscomb Sports Nutrition strives to optimize student-athlete performance, improve student-athlete health and well-being, as well as to prepare them for a lifetime of wellness by providing nutrition guidance, education, and hands-on learning experience. This position is a 12-month, full-time position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. Lipscomb University is a private, Christian university associated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Exercise Physiology, or related field;
- Current Registered Dietitian (RD) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR);
- Tennessee Registered Dietitian licensure or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire;
- Minimum two (2) years of professional experience providing nutrition services and education;
- Ability to work a non-standard work week which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, extended periods of time without days off, and on-call availability.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD), or intent to pursue within 1 year;
- Minimum one (1) year of professional experience as a sports dietitian working in a collegiate or professional sports nutrition program. Graduate or fellowship experience is acceptable;
- Experience supervising dietetic interns
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, and counseling skills;
- Thorough knowledge of nutrition principles as they relate to Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), nutrition counseling techniques, and athletic performance;
- Knowledge of food service quality and safety procedures;
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, computer, organizational, and time-management skills;
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, diverse, and dynamic athletic working environment;
- Proven ability to work independently, self-motivate, able to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner, as well as function effectively as part of a team;
- Demonstrated knowledge of the unique aspects of the collegiate student-athlete population and NCAA athletic departments;
- Capable of training, supervising, and delegating tasks/duties effectively to student interns and volunteers;
- Ability to accurately assess and evaluate energy balance, resting metabolic rate, and total energy expenditure consistent with the physiological demands of the sport and activities of daily living;
- Knowledge of eating disorders and disordered eating signs and symptoms and experience providing nutrition counseling as part of a team setting to provide care;
- Knowledge of complementary medicine, ergogenic aids, and nutritional supplements, including herbal supplements;
- Compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the daily operations of feeding student-athletes;
- Provide fueling plans, counseling, and education to promote optimal performance, as well as short-term and long-term health and wellbeing.
- Day-to-day education, mentorship, and supervision of dietetic intern and undergraduate volunteers (coordinating duties and schedules);
- Managing nutrition stock and inventory and placing product orders as needed;
- Develop nutrition education materials and facilitate team education sessions;
- Conduct nutrition, hydration, and body composition assessments; interpretation and communication of results;
- Interpretation of performance lab testing results including, but not limited to, vitamin D and iron screening labs (i.e. serum Ferritin, CBC);
- Serve as a resource in helping to coordinate nutrition for team travel (i.e. menu selection, catering options, meal timing);
- Research, evaluate, and recommend appropriate dietary supplements with regard to NCAA rules and regulations as well as efficacy, safety, and legality;
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Nutrition.
