For specific inquiries, please email aestanton@mgh.harvard.edu with the subject header "Research Position Inquiry: Research Fellow in Delivery to the Brain." Applicants should send a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three professional references. Accompanying letters of recommendation are encouraged but not strictly required.
The Stanton Lab in the Center for Genomics Medicine (CGM) and Department of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and skilled scientist to be the driver of our effort to develop new approaches for enhanced delivery to the brain, towards the delivery of genetic medicines and realization of precision medicine approaches. The scientist will build on and further develop close collaborations with world-leading experts within Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital and technology of the Stanton Lab (www.stantonlab.info).
Core areas of focus will include the development of advanced preclinical screening tools, generation of vectors and formulation of nanoparticles and other molecules, evaluation in animal models and in vitro systems. The candidate will join a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative research environment that includes neuroscientists, geneticists, bioengineers, computational biologists, and physician-scientists at the CGM and Department of Neurology, as well as at other leading academic institutions and biopharmaceutical companies.

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Science, Neuroscience, Biology, or related field with deep expertise in drug transport techniques

  • Develop novel in vitro and in vivo assays for evaluating functionality, targeting efficiency and potency of novel delivery modalities

  • Be interested in realizing a precision medicine approach to neurological disorders and highly practical, actionable, and translational research

  • Strong skills in rodent handling, dosing (IC, IV, etc.) and necropsy (preferred)

  • Strong skills in tissue culture and bioreactor design (preferred)

  • Strong skills in lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation, characterization, and analysis techniques (preferred)

  • Strong skills in pre-formulation work such as solubility, stability, and excipient compatibility testing (preferred)

  • Knowledge of experimental design

  • Statistical and quantitative analysis skills

  • Basic bioinformatics skills

  • Self-motivated and highly dedicated

  • Effective organizational and prioritization skills

  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment

  • Strong skills in mathematical modeling of molecular diffusion in multi-phase systems and determining primary rate limiting physical and chemical properties of model and molecules of interest (preferred)

  • Strong skills in integrating output of laboratory and mathematical simulations to provide drug delivery guidelines for molecular transport across multi-phase systems as a function of molecular properties (preferred)
