The General, a subsidiary of Sentry Insurance, is seeking an experienced Senior Claims Specialist to join our team. In this senior-level role, you will be responsible for investigating and managing complex to highly complex property and/or casualty claims. You will assess liability, gather and analyze relevant information, evaluate coverage, coordinate appraisals, and negotiate settlements in accordance with company policies and legal standards. This position may involve specialization in liability, property, or catastrophe claims, requiring a high degree of technical expertise and sound judgement.

This position will be located in Madison, WI, Nashville, TN, Alpharetta, GA, or Tampa, FL areas.

What You'll Do:

As a Senior Desk Adjuster, you will:

  • Investigate origin and cause of claims by contacting the appropriate parties including insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, contractors, experts, special investigation unit, other adjusters, public personnel, etc.

  • Handle both 1st party and 3rd party property damage and bodily injury claims under multiple policy types and numerous endorsements.

  • Interpret and determine policies, leases, by-laws, declarations, articles, and contract coverages and apply to all parties for assigned losses.

  • Coordinate on-site inspections when needed, evaluate damages and handles claim negotiations with insureds, claimants, attorneys, public adjusters.

  • Proactively provides all parties with claim process and status as appropriate; answers question or redirects to other areas.

  • Respond to customer inquiries, make appropriate decisions, and closes file as needed.

  • Identifies complex issues and seeks assistance as needed. Handles claims on a good faith basis.

  • Make independent decisions and self-supervise most files and recognize when assistance is needed.

  • Serve as a mentor and subject matter expert for less experienced adjusters.

What it Takes:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain state specific property and casualty claims licensing as required

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of policies and endorsements.

  • Extensive knowledge of each phase of the claim handling process.

  • Demonstrated experience handling 1st and 3rd party, multi-line claims.

  • Demonstrated experience handling simple to moderately complex claims.

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
